Musical Suggestion: Secrets by The Weeknd
Abby
A few months had passed and it was September in Seoul. Specifically, it was getting close to Chuseok. This would be my first Korean Thanksgiving and I was happy I would be enjoying it with the few people whom I've met in Seoul. I was planning to go back home for Thanksgiving in November, but I decided I might go back for Christmas.
Things cooled down with me and the fuckboys as I was spending my time with Ji-Won and Chin-Hwa, individually. It was totally casual but I really enjoyed the companionship. It was different between the two as Chin-Hwa had gotten physical previously and that has dramatically slowed down whereas Ji-Won has barely made it to first base. But I like how it plays out so I just go along for the ride. I've thrown all caution to the wind.
Ji-Won has a special place in my heart because he takes care of me on a daily basis, even when I don't want him to, he does anyway. He has been the perfect gentleman. He knows about my escapades and recently has been tuned in that I haven't been talking about my 'dates'.
"Noona, I noticed you haven't been hanging out as you usually do on Fridays. You have either been home or you are just hanging out with friends. No more dating fuckboys?" he asked as he brought my iced coffee over to the table.
"It has slowed down a bit," I said, smiling shyly. I was thinking about Chin-Hwa. He has been nice lately. He seemed to have opened up to me.
"Oh that's good. So you've found someone," he said looking curious. I wasn't sure if he was happy for me or disappointed it wasn't him.
"I wouldn't say all that," I replied. He sat back trying to read my face. I stuck my tongue out and he smiled.
"Well whoever he is, I hope he knows who's attention he has," Ji-Won said, standing up and wiping off the table.
"You make it sound like I'm special," I replied.
"You are Abby," he said, looking directly at me.
"Well, you'll be the first to know if I get serious," I said smiling as he walked away.
It had been a while since I had stopped by the jazz club and I had a sudden urge to play some music after work. I stopped by my apartment, changed out of my work clothes into a pair of baggy jeans, a pair of air force ones and a crop top sweater. I parted my hair down the middle and created two low ponytails hanging down my back.
I looked like a graduate student in my twenties. I wanted to just let loose and get back to my music. It helps me when I have anxiety and it calms my soul.
When I arrived the club was just getting crowded. I weaved my way through the crowd to the backstage to see if John was available.
"Hey Abby, good to see you. Are you coming to play tonight?" he asked while giving me a hug.
"If you'll have me, of course,"
"You are always welcome, thanks for coming. You know everything so go right ahead and make yourself comfy. The show will start in about a half an hour," he said as he walked around to do a sound check.
"Cool beans, thanks." I took off my hoodie and pulled out my violin. I strummed it along and heard the strings hum. They sang so beautifully as the bow grazed across them effortlessly.
Showtime came and John introduced me along with the band. He asked if there was a piece that I liked to play. The first piece that came to mind was the piece that I played in the park and the charity event. I figured it would sound absolutely amazing since there was a piano for John to accompany me.
