Chapter 18
Annaleise's POV
I immediately spun around to the direction I heard the dreaded words. The room became deadly silent, the only sounds were the teachers heavy breathing. I felt my emotions change, they morthed into fear and expectancy. I looked at Grandpa with tears in my eyes. I saw, in the reflection of his glasses, my hair was a very dark brown, and my eyes were a completely different colour, purple. My hand, I saw from the corner of my eye, was currently glowing rainbow colours, but the colours were mixed in their lines, giving the odd impression that water had spread around my hand and had spread colours into the tattoo. How in the world did they know? Unless someone had overheard?
Could this have anything to do with my attacker this morning? Warm tears filled in my eyes, but I refused to let them shed. I turned once again when I saw Grandpa's apologetic glance. I don't want sympathy. I want answers. I turned to the crowd of older and the same aged students and put on a brave face, and hopefully a fearsome one too. I saw the students cower back and my fierce expression. I looked around the whole room, keeping my back to the teachers, and gave then all a death glare. When I saw the Slytherin students smirk and smile in my direction? What the hell? I'm a Gryffindor! Or yeah, and the evil daughter of Lord Voldemort, how could I forget?
"How do you know?" I asked in a guarded whisper, afraid of letting emotions into my voice, giving me away. A shaking boy, about one year older than me, stepped forward and pointed to the commonroom door. In another situation, I would've found it funny that a boy older than me was scared of me, but in this case, he had the right to be scared of me. I forced my frozen legs to move, causing everyone to jump and back away from me, frightened I would hurt them. They knew nothing. I kept my pokerface on until I reached the door. Nothing. Not even a scratch. I decided to step through the portrait hole and outside into the corridors. I saw the usual view. Moving stairs and talking portraits. But his time, the stairs are frozen and the portraits were screaming and crying in fear. I saw them point at me and then at the wall behind me.
I spun around quickly, causing Dawn to wobble a little and squawk. I saw a red thing drip from above, so I craned my neck and read the words, that, by the awful smell and the metallic colour, I assumed were written in blood.
'Annaleise. You are no match for me. My Death-Eaters will find you and bring you to me. Then I will kill you, slowly and torturously. Good luck trying to hide. We will find you again like we did today. Your Father'
Oh my god.
Shock and fear ran through me, I felt my emotions change again, but this time I didn't see what colours they changed into. I had bigger things on my mind. Everything in my vision swam in red. I saw the teachers come out of the commonroom, followed by the students of Hogwarts. Whats that noise? Oh, it's me. The words repeated themselves in my head. We will find you. More screams came out my mouth. I had to run. I felt Dawn fly off my arm as I started to run. People followed, I could up their footsteps behind me. I felt my arm fall behind my and my tattoo stung for a second. I heard crunches and sickening slaps of people hitting something. Like glass. I carried on running, but when I reached the corner, I leaned past the wall and saw the scene I had just caused. People were casting spells at an invisible wall. A shield. More people launching themselves at the wall, and failing to get through. I felt people watching me. That's when I started running again.
I whizzed past corners and corridors, but slowed down when I reached the many steps leading to my final destination. As I climbed the steps, I thought of my life before this. I felt sorry for the people I couldn't say goodbye to. Harley, my best friend. Peeves, my prankster partner. Fred and George, my best friends and brothers. Harry, my cousin. Hermione, my bestest friend in the whole world. Snape, my father in many ways, if not biologically. Grandpa, my inspiration. Auntie Minerva, my auntie and friend. The teachers, for being there at each stage of my 11 years of life. The ghosts, for being there to talk to when you needed someone to listen. I saw light at the top of the staircase and I quickly ran to it. It was morning, the sun just reaching it's height in the sky. No clouds, a bright sun, birds were singing.
I stepped up onto the balcony of the Astronomy Tower. The highest tower in the whole of Hogwarts. I would miss this view. I would miss this castle. I would miss exploring the secret passages with Fred and George. But, I don't belong in a world where I'm not wanted. In a world where I have powers I can't control. I stepped up to the edge of the balcony and sat on the railing. I slowly lowered myself onto the ledge, my back pressed against the rails and the wind blowing my hair backwards. I closed my eyes and listened to the wind. Then I heard footsteps behind me and a sneering voice ask "Are you sure you want to do that, Snape?"
