Chapter 4

Hot shot was out of the hospital and recovering from his heart transplant. Hot shot was doing a good job about taking his medicines. He and his parents all had timers for it. They even got a bracelet for him to let everyone know he has a heart transplant and on medications. That way he can be well looked after.

Hot shot was still going back and forth from the hospital every week to check on him. He saw his friends there when he went too. Hot shot was glad to go.

The visits were going well. Hot shot's new heart was doing fine and responding well to the dose changes. Hot shot was also staying in the right level for everything. He was feeling great and doing well.

After eight weeks he was checked and they saw his breast bone was completely healed. Hot shot got a lot of different tests done too. Hot shot was doing very well.

At the last check up at the three month period they recorded the heart beat of the heart beating inside Hot shot's chest. Now they could make bears at build a bear. They learned Tony the heart donor had a little sister who missed him.

Hot shot wanted a bear each for the mother, father and little sister. Then they managed to get three bears and gave them all the same recording. They were stuffed. Hot shot was given a bear for himself by his father.

Hot shot was hoping to meet the donor family. Then a few months later Hot shot was at Cook Children's Hospital, the doctors had arranged a meeting with the donor family. Hot shot remember to bring the bears.

Hot shot was looking forward to meeting them.

Hot shot and his parents were waiting. Then a bit later the family came in. "Hello, thank you for meeting with us," Heatwave said.

"We were happy too," the father of Tony said.

They were given a stethoscope. The mother listened first to the heart beating in Hot shot's chest. "The heart sounds so strong," she said.

The father then listened to the heart beating in Hot shot's chest. "That is wonderful to hear it now," he said.

"I wanna hear," said the little three year old sister. She got to listen too.

"I got presents for all of you," Hot shot said.

"You do?' the father said.

Hot shot gave them the bears. "Squeeze the paw," Heatwave said.

They each squeezed the paws. Then the heart beat recording played. "That is a recording of Tony's heart beating inside Hot shot's chest," Quickshadow said.

"That is the most wonderful thing, thank you so much," the mother said.

The two families remained in contact after that.

Hot shot soon got his wish. Hot shot was so happy to see he playground. There was red slide, a bridge and fireman's pole. It looked like a huge firetruck one end with a steering wheel. The other part looked like a firehouse. Hot shot loved it a lot.

Hot shot was finally clear from a transplant stand point. So he began run around and play on it. Hot shot was having a lot of fun too. "This is so much fun!" Hot shot said.

"I am glad you are having fun," Quickshadow said.

"As am I," Heatwave said.

Hot shot continued to grow throughout the years. Hot shot was doing very well. His body was doing well with the new heart. Hot shot was becoming highly active.

He began to participate in sports as he got older. Hot shot even decided to go into pediatric cardiology. He went to high school and finished his undergrade school while in high school. He was very smart.

Then he started to go to medical school. Hot shot soon finished medical school with honors. Hot shot was doing very well. Hot shot soon was a pediatric cardiologist in training. Soon he finished train a few years later.

He then was hired by the hospital that saved his life. He was now working at Cincinnati Children's he now had the skills to do heart transplants. He was an excellent doctor. He even found love and had a family.

Hot shot still gets checked out every now and again because there is a chance he may need another transplant later in life. But right now he is enjoying life to the fullest. He is a very happy and healthy man. Hot shot will remember how important organ donation is and won't ever forget how it affects so many people.  He will never forget that he was the first heart transplant of Cook Children's hospital. It sure changed his life.
