Hot shot has been in the hospital awaiting a heart transplant for about three and half weeks. Hot shot was hooked up to VAD system. Some days he felt very good and other days he felt pretty bad. His parents were both taking shifts with them. When the changed shifts, the one getting off will say good bye with a kiss and a hug. The one coming on shift will greet with a kiss and a hug and bring presents from friends and family. He was very sad whenever he saw one of his parents go.

Hot shot got a lot of different presents ranging from toys, books, drawing paper with crayons or markers, or colored pencils, coloring books, and get well cards. Hot shot was happy they were all thinking about him.

Hot shot was wondering when he was going to get his new organ. Hot shot was also getting all kinds of tests done while he was there. He was still on the highest priority for transplant. Hot shot was very sick. He was hoping to get his new heart very soon. He knew it was okay to feel guilty about getting a transplant from a child who has died. But it was important to remember that the family chose to give him that organ.

Hot shot saw Dr. Olta "I was wondering if it is possible to be in contact with the family of the donor after I get the heart?" Hot shot asked.

"Yes it is possible," Dr. Olta said. Many recipient families and donor families remain in contact after transplants," he said.

"I am happy to hear that, because after I get the heart transplant, I want to get the members of the family presents to say thank you for giving me a new heart and saving my life, I was wanting the gift to have something special about it," Hot shot said.

"Well there are many things you can do," Dr. Olta said. "I saw some videos of donor families getting build a bears with the heart beat of the relative beating inside the recipient's chest as recording on a sound chip in the bear," he said.

"Wow can we do that for the family when I get my heart daddy?" Hot shot asked.

"Of course son," Heatwave said.

Hot shot was very happy and looking forward to doing that to give to the family. It was soon December 10th. Hot shot was going to watch a movie with his father who was taking a shift with him.

Quickshadow was working that night.

Hot shot barely touched a bite of food all day. He just didn't feel very hungry. He just didn't want any food. He was thinking maybe tonight was the night he got a new heart.

Dr. Olta was with a nurse and surgeon who did heart transplants. Then a phone rang. "Hello Cook Children's hospital what is going on?" Dr. Olta said.

"Yes this is hospital near Fort Worth, we have heart available for one of the five years old on your heart transplant list," the man on other end said.

"You do?" Dr. Olta said.

"Yes we are sending info right now," the man said.

They got the information. The heart was of a five year old who was the same size as Hot shot. The blood type was A positive and it was very close too. Everything about it was just right for Hot shot, the size and age were the same and the blood type was the same. "This heart is a match for one of our five year olds, it is a match for a boy named Hot shot," Dr. Olta said. "We will send our transplant team out," he said.

"Understood we will be ready," the man said.

"Thanks bye," Dr. Olta said.

"Bye," the man said.

Dr. Olta hung up. "Attention transplant pick up team we need you," Dr. Olta said.  We have a heart for Hot shot, this is going to be our first heart transplant so we have to be ready," Dr. Olta said. "This is the name of the hospital where the donor is at, head there and pick up the heart," he said.
