Chapter Four

I lift the pole up and look at the cuffs. "Eren hold still and don't even flinch or move. You move something in you may be crushed" I lift my leg up and slam it down using all my strength and force to break the cuffs. Eren looks at the broken cuffs and everyone looks at me shocked. "How do we know she's not human?! She just demonstrated that she has some sort of unnatural strength! No normal person especially a girl can break metal cuffs!" I pull Eren closer as their yells and cries of anger and justice ring out. Something in me was stirring and it wasn't good. I cover my ears and start rocking back and forth. And I remember the one memory of why I hated yelling. "We were 12. And we had been chosen as Marelyean warriors. Meaning we were to inherit one of the Nine Titans. But as we ran to meet our Dad to tell him the good news he hit me as Reiner was explaining that we could be a happy family. 'SHE SENT YOU DIDN'T SHE?!' I had started to cry and Reiner pulled me into his arms as my cheek turned red from the hit. 'W-Why doesn't Dad love us?' Reiner pulled me away glaring at our Dad and he yelled. 'DON'T YOU EVER HURT MY SISTER AGAIN!'" And then I remember the day I was supposed to inherit my Titan but I didn't. "It had been due to some freak accident that I wasn't able to inherit a Titan. Which in the eyes of Marely made me useless. They wanted to send me to 'Heaven' had Reiner and Marcel not stopped them and made them think about using me as a distraction due to my beauty. It managed to keep me alive but I was sworn to never date a man in order to remain pure and untouched." I feel a familiar pair of arms wrap around me and I look up seeing my Brother. I snuggle into his embrace for the first time since we were kids.
It was the first time since we were 12 that I had allowed my brother to hug me. Ever since Marcel died I had shut myself off. Eren puts his hand on my face and puts his forehead against mine. I look at him and let out a soft sigh as the panic coursing through my veins stops. I regain my composure and glare at all the people who keep yelling. "For all we know she could be a monster like him!" I ignore them and help Eren up. I ignore the pain coming from my side. I had forgotten that I was bleeding until Shorty came up to me and picked me up. "Hah?!" "Your bleeding brat." I don't even bother fighting. I just lay in his arms as he carries me. I rest my eyes and open them when I hear a door open and close. I get set down on a couch and some lady in glasses cuts my bandages. I don't even shiver when the cold air hits my skin. I look down at the woman with glasses as she just stares at me. "Look, I know my body is built differently than most girls." She looks up. "You're built differently than most guys! In a good way! You have the most toned body I have seen for a woman!" I roll my eyes. "Look just patch me up okay?" The woman nods and patches me up again.
My attention turns to Eren and the shorty when I hear the shorty ask. "Tell me Eren." Eren stutters. "Y-Yes sir!" "Do you resent me?" "N-No sir, I know you needed to put on a show." "Very well. Brat what about yo-" I speak in a cold hard voice. "Of course I resent you shortstack you kicked him in the face and then reopened my wound." "As your Captain you need to learn to respect me. So instead of calling me shorty or shortstack, call me Captain Levi." I look down at him. "You can have my respect when you have earned it." Levi looks up at me. "Why are you such a tall brat?" "It's called genetics." Levi glares at me and I just look down at him. He reminded me of an angry cat. I purse my lips and just stare at him unfazed by his cold look. The lady in the glasses and the taller blonde dude watch me and Levi in awe. I hear the glasses girl say in a hushed and awed tone. "She's not even the least bit scared of him! Even though he could probably take her down easily she isn't the slightest bit intimidated by him! What are you thinking, Erwin?" The tall blonde dude who I now know is Erwin speaks up. "I'm thinking she needs to be a part of the Survey Corps soon. This is something we need in a soldier." "She also seems to be something sort of like a protector to Eren! Did you see how she leaped over the fence and started to actually fight Levi! She had him on the ground! She had him actually fighting! She was harder to take down!" "I know which is why I'm making sure her and Eren aren't separated because something tells me that if she's separated from him. All hell is going to break loose." Levi finally looks away. "Tch. Stupid tall brat." I shrug and go back to my calm, cold silent demeanor. I watch as Hange tends to Eren and looks at his tooth that already grew back. Levi looks around and tells us we need to go. I grab Eren and start walking towards the door. "You don't even know where you're going. So let me lead the way." I hear Levi say I roll my eyes and let him lead. We eventually come across horses and more cadets. I stay close to Eren and mutter. "Stay close, I don't trust these people."
Eren nods and hops on a horse. I follow suit and ride right beside him. As we ride off we soon come to an old castle. "The former headquarters of the Survey Corps. The facility is no more than an old converted castle. Charming in its way, sure... But an HQ both this far from the wall and river... was worse than useless to the Survey Corps. Back then the Corps had just been formed and soldiers were full of ambition. Who would've figured. That this oversized decoration would be the best place to keep you locked up?" I spot a man who can't be too terribly old despite his features trying to intimidate Eren. I immediately intervene by riding my horse between the two of them. And glare at the man. The man's horse trips and he bites his tongue.
