Chapter Six

We arrived at the training grounds where me and Eren were hiding behind a wall. As I listened to his speech I get bored. So I start to braid and unbraid my hair. Finally after what seemed like hours he finished talking and he salutes the new cadets. A month passes by quickly and it seemed like Eren no longer needed me so I withdrew again. I still talked to people but it was mainly Petra. This past month me and Petra had gotten really close. It was the day of the expedition and as we rode past Titans started appearing but the support team handled it. We finally made it out the walls and were riding through a giant plain. I split off with Eren since that was the plan. As we ride off towards the forest someone rides beside us. "I'VE GOT A MESSAGE! THE RIGHT FLANK IS BLIND TO ENEMY MOVEMENT!" We ride off faster. I was glad that I was put with Eren so I can make sure he's safe. Levi tells Eren to set off the flare and we ride to the Titan forest. We make it and ride through where Eren starts complaining about the mission. "Eren hush there's no use complaining." We suddenly hear something and I turn around. "Go." I say simply and urge my horse to go faster. Everyone follows suit and we ride as fast as we can. Someone panics and we all switch to vertical gear As we switch some people show up and go to handle this Titan. I turn around and look at it. And I know exactly who it is. "Annie..." I mutter. Everyone starts asking Levi what their orders are when Levi says "I don't think so, our Squad's mission is to keep that little shit and his friend from getting as so much as a scratch. Or die trying" My eyes widen no... I couldn't and wouldn't allow this but I had to keep Eren safe! I hear the screams of the people trying to help us and I clench my jaw. "Eren, let's just go! Stop trying to play the hero and save yourself!" Eren turns to me in anger. "You don't know anything about being a hero! You only joined because of me! If I hadn't joined you would probably have joined Reiner! You always followed me or Reiner like a lost puppy who doesn't know freedom!" I sigh. "Fine then don't trust your Squad that's fine. Just know whatever decision you make there will be consequences." Eren looks back then back at me and the Squad. "I trust y'all." I nod and we keep riding. We finally make it to the spot where the trap was. And we were finally safe as they trapped the Titan. I'm glad they told me the plan I believe that they told me because they knew I wouldn't allow Eren to be hurt or not protect himself. While me and Eren leave I watch our surroundings. I notice zero Titans which I'm glad for. While we go about our way the Squad questions me. "Did you know about the plan? If so, why didn't you tell us! We're your comrades, we could've died because of you!" I ignore them then one of them grabs me by the shoulder. I turn around and of course it's Oluo. "Tell us now! Did you know! Tell us or we'll have no choice!"
Oluo makes a move towards Eren and I immediately have my sword at his neck. "If I tell you you better leave Eren alone." Oluo nods and I put my sword away. I sigh and grudgingly tell them. "Yes I knew the plan. You think they would risk me convincing Eren to save himself and abort the mission? You think that they want to make me their enemy? They knew that for the plan to work I had to know." Everyone is shocked. "I made my choice and I knew the consequences. I took the risks even if it got all of us but Eren killed that was a risk I was willing to take. My life for Eren's that's the best thing for me to donate my life to. I don't care about the better of humanity. Fuck humanity it can shrivel up and die. But what I care about deeply is those that are even remotely close to me. If you're one of them then sweet you have someone who's willing to die and even kill for you. And if you're not them then oh well don't get on their or my bad side." I turn my back to them. "I'm not entirely sorry about the words I used and the choice I made." Petra speaks up. "No one blames you. In fact if it were me in your shoes and it was my closest friend I would do the exact same thing. I would risk it all for them." I turn around and say "Thank you Petra." We keep going using the gear to zoom around to our horses after we had seen the flare to retreat. Gunther was in the lead when- I hear the "Bzzt" and then see Gunther's body swing limply "Gunther!" I yell and see that his nape had been cut, killing him instantly. My eyes narrow in anger. "Keep going!" Eren starts to protest but I ignore him but everything changes when the Female Titan appears again. "This time I'm killing her." Eren says. "No! It's too risky! Let the three of us fight it!" I want to fight the Female Titan so bad but I sigh in defeat. "Fine." I turn away as Eld, Petra, and Oluo go to fight the Female Titan.
"Annie if you so much as hurt Petra I'm killing you despite what I get told." I mutter as I keep going until I hear Oluo yell "PETRA GET HIGHER QUICK!" I turn and my eyes widen. The Female Titan was running right at Petra. "PETRA! NOW!" I watch as it all seems to go in slow motion. I watch as Petra gets kicked into the tree breaking her spine. "NO!" I scream and change direction going directly towards Petra. I see Oluo get kicked, killing him too. "STOP!" I zoom past the Female Titan. I land right beside Petra. I pull her into my arms. I speak in a soft grief stricken voice. "Grief is the price we pay for love. And I love you Petra. Thank you for showing me what it's like to have a big sister and best friend. And if I were given a choice between grief and nothing, I'd choose grief." I start crying and I scream in pure pain because all I could see was Marcel again. I hear Eren turn into a Titan but I don't care I just sit on the ground cradling Petra. I was screaming and crying. For the first time I was showing emotion.
