Chapter Five

We finally arrive at the castle and stabled our horses. While a girl with light brown hair talks to the man I pet my horse. I keep a close eye on Eren. I don't trust these people not one bit. As the girl with short light brown hair approaches me I suddenly am reminded of Reiner. And for some reason I want to make sure she's safe. "Hi I'm Petra Rall! The man who bit his tongue is Oluo." She points at the man and I stare daggers at him. She then points to a blonde boy and a brown haired boy. "The blonde one is Eld and the brown one is Gunther." The boys Gunther and Eld wave at me and I just stare. They stop waving and Petra walks back over to Oluo and continues to talk to him. I just stand over Eren. The only other person who rivaled my height was Eld and I typically don't like taller men. Makes me feel like there is a huge power dynamic between me and them. Especially if they're a guy it makes me feel like they're trying to assert their dominance.
Levi calls us to clean the castle. I get paired with Petra which makes me frustrated. She chattered so much while we were cleaning but it honestly helped me get a better perspective of her. She was in the Corps to make her dad proud. I finish cleaning and I lean against my broom then I hear Eren's familiar footsteps and I follow after him. "Eren!" He turns to me and smiles. He walks towards Levi and says "Top floor is clean sir." "Where do I sleep?" "The basement" I walk over to Levi. "And where do I sleep?" "With Petra in the girl's bunk." "So Eren sleeps in the basement alone and I sleep with that girl?" Levi glares at me. "That's what I just said." I look down at him. "I'm staying with Eren." Levi just glares and then walks out of the room while saying. "I'm going to check the one you two did. Y'all work on this one." I grab a broom and start sweeping muttering curses and insults directed to Levi. Eren looks disappointed and I look at him. I start to talk but Petra comes in and interrupts me. "You look disappointed." "Sorry?" "It isn't an unusual reaction. He doesn't seem like the perfect hero that people make him out to be, does he? The real Captain Levi is unexpectedly short, high strung, ill-mannered, and unapproachable." "No... What took me by surprise was how obediently he accepts orders from above." As they keep talking I listen carefully while I clean. They get to the fact that Levi used to be a notorious criminal from the underground. "Underground?" I think to myself with a soft barely visible smirk on my face. Levi peeks into the room. "Hey Eren." Petra starts cleaning what I already did. "Y-Yes sir!" "You call that clean? Do it again."

A few minutes later we were all seated at the table. I for some reason was seated beside Levi and away from Eren. Which I was not happy about. I shift in my seat repeatedly. "Oi brat, stop moving." I glare at Levi. I stand up and walk over to Eren and sit beside him. They start talking about how they're putting the new recruits in the expedition in 30 days. I ignore them until Oluo has the guts to say. "I bet the brats were paralyzed with fright." I turn to him. "No, some of us went and fought like we were used to this already even if we are raw recruits. We showed way more courage than you." Oluo looks at me. "What did you say, brat?" "I said that we had way more courage than you could ever have." Then it turns into an argument. It starts to get heated so much that Eren stands up. "Kumi calm down." "I'm not even angry, Eren. Rather than angry I'm rather calm." I lean back in my chair with a calm cold expression. "Oluo this talk between us is over." They resume talking and everyone starts to ask Eren questions about what it's like to become a Titan. I glare at them and try to make it known that I don't trust them.
Levi says something and I roll my eyes. "Don't ask anything beyond the report. Although I doubt she'll be able to keep her mouth shut." I look up and roll my eyes again. Everyone looks at me. "It's not me dumbasses. I can keep a secret but can you?" I look up at the ceiling. I look at the door when it's practically thrown open. "Hi there, Squad Levi! Is the castle comfortable?" I realize its Hange the over eccentric, Titan loving woman who seemed to admire my physique. She starts to go on and on about how she wants to borrow Eren for some experiments. "No." I say plainly there was no way in hell I would let her even near Eren without a fight. Levi though allows it but it's grudgingly I think he did it in spite of me. "But what do you mean by Titan experiment?" Oluo nudges Eren and I immediately turn all my attention to Oluo and glare at him. Oluo ignores me and says to Eren. "Hey! Don't even get her started..." Hange starts to talk and everyone but me, Eren, and Hange file out the room. I hardly pay attention to her. She talks on and on all throughout the night. By the time she finished talking it was already morning. Someone then runs in asking "Is Squad Leader Hange here?!" I nod and Hange stands up. "The subjects... both Titans have been killed!!" We all run outside and Hange starts crying. I stand there unsure what to do. I hear them say they suspect a soldier and everyone looks at me. I roll my eyes "Why the hell are y'all looking at me?" Erwin approaches me and Eren. I immediately get right beside Eren. I still don't trust Erwin. I don't know who to even trust. Erwin put a hand on Eren's shoulder "What did you see? Do you know who the enemy is?" Eren looks confused and I pull him away. "Sorry I should've known you wouldn't know the answer. Now you two go get ready y'all have to welcome the new recruits." We nod and walk off.
