Chapter Nine

I remember waking up to the door being knocked on by someone. I look around and see Eren asleep, his arms around my waist. I smile softly and gently move his hands. I get up and walk to the door, opening it to see Hange. "Hange? What is it?" "Oh- Eren wasn't in his room and I needed him for some experiments so I decided to see if you knew where he was." I rub my eyes and yawn "Yeah- Uhh-" I yawn again. "He's in here asleep." Hange looks at me confused. "Wait- You mean he slept in your room?" I nod. I was still half asleep. "Just come in, I guess I'm too tired for this shit." Hnage walks in and sees Eren who's hugging my pillow in his sleep. "Awww!" I look at Hange and just sit down beside Eren stroking his hair. Hange watches with a smile. "I don't know if it's a good idea on my part to wake Eren up." I look up at Hange. "Yeah it isn't. Eren needs his sleep" I give Hange a protective glare and she just smiles. I soften a bit. "I guess you can come here for a hu-" I don't even finish when Hange quite practically tackles me and hugs me. I sit there surprised then hug back. "I said hug not tackle-" Hange smiles kindly at me. I look away remembering the nightmare I had. I look down at Eren, a fondness in my eyes. "You're rather fond of him. I've never seen you like this before. I remember how you fought Levi because he kicked Eren. You never leave his side and if you do it isn't for very long. Why is that? Did he save you or something?" "No, I've always had this little voice in my head telling me to protect him to help him no matter the cost. That same voice always applied to Reiner. But lately the voice hasn't been telling me to protect Reiner. It's been more focused on Eren. And as for when I attacked Levi. I don't remember anything but a voice in my head saying 'Tatakae' I don't know why."
Hange looks a bit surprised. "So you basically blacked out?" I nod. "Whatever this voice is. It knows what it's doing because it led me and Eren to where we are now. Especially with how I protect him..." I trail off not liking the feeling of this voice being the sole reason I protect Eren. Besides I don't like being told what to do never have never will. But I always did what I was told because it was engraved in every fiber of my being. Disobeying an order could mean a difference between life and death. "You okay?" I snap back into reality. "Yeah sorry. So what was the experiment you wanted to do?" "Oh I just wanted to see how his Titan shifting works! Maybe there was something that triggers it! Like we never knew he was one until he was triggered into it." Trigger- Then it clicks. "Hange I want to try an experiment and I don't want you to know what it is until I get the results okay?" Hange looks at me confused. "What is it?" "You'll know more later now let's go." I stand up and leave the room Hange following me. We get to a clearing and I look around. "Okay we're going to train for a while okay?" "Okay?" We train for hours until Eren shows up. "Eren you're here for your experiment!" Eren sighs. "Okay the goal at hand is to see what triggers it! Like we know you need to have a set goal in mind. So for this experiment Kumi is the goal!" "Hah?" "You're going to protect Kumi!" I look around realizing Hange had set up some Titans for the experiment. And I knew she had it all planned out. I didn't have anything to protect me so Eren would have no choice but to protect me. Hange maneuvers to safety and give the go and the Titans are let go. I take off running. The nightmare came back to me and I run faster. I look behind me and see five titans running after me. I don't stop running until I hear the familiar roar of Eren's titan form. The titans divert their attention from me to Eren. Hange realizes things aren't going as planned and she watches with nervous eyes. I stand safely away from the fight then realize Eren is being overpowered. "No..." I start running my feet took on a mind of their own. I keep running, not stopping. "Eren! Please! There's still so much I want to tell you!" Eren looks at me and roars. I do it without hesitation or thinking. I bite my hand yelling and then I don't remember anything. The only thing I remember is hearing Eren's voice yelling at me and I hear Hange talking quite excitedly. "Kumi! Hey! Hey! Wake up! Please don't do this to me! Not now! I can't lose you!" "So she's also a Titan Shifter! Maybe she didn't know! Maybe that's why when the Female Titan showed up she didn't shift! And she only realized when I mentioned triggers and goals!" I groan. "Kumi! Don't you ever scare me like that again!" I open my eyes. I see Eren who's leaning over me looking scared and then I see Hange who's quite excited about something. "W-What happened?" Eren looks at me. "Well you-" Hange interrupts him. "You shifted into this really cool looking Titan and saved Eren!" Titan? So the inheritance did work- But why now? Why not before when Marcel was eaten? Why not when Annie attacked? Then I realize now that I had my Titan I could get my revenge and avenge Petra and them. I sit up "No time for questions, the mission is soon and I have a personal thing planned." Levi walks over "No you don't your going to answer our questions now Cadet." I shake my head "No time. Just trust me." "How do we know we can trust you when you could be the enemy?" "Because if I was I would've taken Eren a long time ago." "It's true she knew me way before the Survey Corps. She's not an enemy." I stand there. "Levi let me fight Annie if it comes down to it. I need to no hell I have to do this." Levi sighs. "Cadet your job will be to protect Eren you do anything other than that and I'm stopping you." I frown. "Why?" "Why what?" "Why do you seem so bent on ruining everything for me? Why do you hate me so much?! First you kicked Eren, tried to keep me away from him, put him in harm's way, and now this?!" I was getting irritated way too quickly. Hange and Eren could tell so they put a hand on my shoulder to calm me down. "Look, stop me all you want Levi but I am fighting Annie one way or another." I walk off.
