A LOUD RINGING echoed through the hallowed halls of the plinth manor, falling on deaf ears. Silence bounced off the walls in Deyanira Plinth's room, her head buried under the comfort of her duvet as dried tears clung to her cheeks. She sighed as the loud ringing continued and lifted her body out of bed, the second her feet hit the cold tiled floor she yearned for the warming shield of her covers again, instead she dragged herself to the door.

As she approached the entrance to the Plinth manor, she saw that it was raining quite heavily outside, she hadn't noticed at all, but now that she thinks back the sound of the raindrops must have melded with her sobs.

She reached the door and cracked it open peering out into the damp night.

"Coryo?" she'd whispered upon seeing Coriolanus Snow standing on the doorstep drenched head to toe from the rain. A smile graced her face as he turned to her. She was almost relieved to see him. Almost. Her smile dropped.

"Can I come in?" he asked ever politely, and this time it made her gut turn, and she inched the door closed slightly on instinct. Why was he here?

After a few seconds of her blank stare, she snapped out of it and cracked the door open, she turned away quickly and dismissed him as he entered "My father is in his office, he'll be pleased to see you" Snow could hear the venom in her words, and it pained him to hear her sound like that.

Coriolanus looked at Deyanira, he looked at her red rimmed eyes and the redness of her nose. He looked at the scarring around her fingernails, that had only worsened since the last time he'd seen her. He looked at the way her hair fell effortlessly despite not being brushed. "I'm actually here for you, Dey"

Deyanira froze at his words. "no" she turned to him wanting to cry again, but she had nothing left in her after the days she'd spent continuously sobbing. "I don't need your sympathy", there was venom in her voice again. Coriolanus hated the way it sounded coming from her lips. She wasn't supposed to talk to him like that. She was supposed to be kind, optimistic, naïve. Someone he could tolerate, someone who would listen. Was it something he did? Did he turn her into this spiteful sounding mess?

He supposed it was indirectly his fault. Sejanus was dead. A part of Deyanira had seemed to die with him too. Seeing her in this state almost made him regret turning Sejanus in, but there was a cost in every sacrifice and Deyanira's happiness was not worth the price.
