Chapter 237 - "Oh, you missed me so much?" (1)
After they had finished dishes and just when the two of them were walking out of the kitchen, the cousin came over again.
This time he came to invite the over to play mahjong.
In the modern worth, there were no shortage of materialistic goods. There were no longer novelty and satisfaction over the New Year time. Especially for the city-dwellers, they were not used to life in a small town where entertainments were very lacking. As such, one by one they have turned to mahjong, the "essence of the country", to kill time.
This cousin was an expert in this as well. He has two tables going at home and called up his few brothers over to kill some time while getting together. He wasn't able to get through to Jiang MingYuan with the phone, which was why he came in person.
Jiang MingYuan was no stranger to mahjong. The others had included him in the past years. He was not very good at it and would spend a lot of money on it every year. That didn't bother him much and it also pleased those who played with him. As such, they invited him more and more frequently.
Jiang MingYuan would never turn down such invitations in the past but this year was different.
He came with his entire family this year!
After finding out the purpose of his cousin's visit, he pondered for a few seconds and declined him regretfully. "XingXing is still young and I didn't want to leave him home by himself. I'm afraid that..."
"Then bring your son with." His cousin with beer gut interrupted him. "There are plenty of kids over at my place and all about the same age as him. I am sure they will get along well with each other."
Having said that, he even gestured XingXing to come over and tempted him. "Does XingXing want to come over to Uncle's place? There are lots of big brothers and big sisters around and your nephews and nieces as well."
As Jiang MingYuan was the youngest one in his generation, he had a cousin who was 20 years his senior. As such, XingXing's seniority within the family was quite high. Many children would have to refer to him as their uncle.
XingXing, always being the youngest one around, had never been a elder before. The idea was very novel and tempting to him. He didn't need much temptation from the Fourth Cousin before he put his arms around Jiang MingYuan's thigh and expressed that he wanted to go.
If the little one was willing to go, Jiang MingYuan no long object to it too much. Cheng Huan wasn't keen on going but, after some more talking and convincing from the cousin, the entire family finally left with him.
Fourth Cousin has his own house next to Big Grandpa's. The place was not small at all. The outside was the same type of white wall and grey roof. The décor inside resembled that of a hotel. It looked very glamourous but also very odd for a residence.
When they arrived at his place, the two tables of mahjong were already set up and people had already started. There were also others who were standing around watching. From time to time, one could hear the sound of mahjong clanking against each other or someone chatting.
When they walked inside, two people stood up from one table and offered them their seats.
"You guys keep playing. I will go set up another table," said Fourth Cousin's wife as she walked out with a plate of fruit. Smiling, she brought out a plate of fruits and pushed the two people back down into their seats.
While his wife was setting up another table, Jiang MingYuan's cousin called his own daughter over and had her take XingXing away to play with the other kids.
The little girl was just 12 years old and just started high school. She had a pony tail behind her and she looked shy. She was a sweet girl, nevertheless. She didn't care that XingXing was very young and picked up his hand after hearing what her father had told her. She then said to Jiang MingYuan and Cheng Huan, "Uncle and Aunty, I will bring little brother over to play with us then."
"Okay, go. Keep an eye out on him, alright?" The cousin pulled a few notes out from his pocket and told her not to go somewhere too far away.
