Chapter 272 - "I want to see my son." (2)

"I have never been good with school work. Why waste my time on school when I can give the entertainment circle a try?" She lit a cigarette and drew a puff. She pulled up some random article that exposed how much some third-tier star made. "Look. Just being a spokesperson of any kind would make enough money for me to live on for the rest of my life. I'm not bad looking either. If they can do it, why wouldn't I be able to?"

That made sense to Cheng Huan. "Okay, then go and give it a shot."

"I'm signed up already. The first round will be next week."

Then why did you sound like you were asking for my opinion on it?

Cheng Huan felt that she had been tricked and didn't want to be around her for the time being. She picked up the bowl, said she'd go busy herself, turned, and walked toward the kitchen.

Once she was in her work mode, it was easy for Cheng Huan to forget a lot of other matters. It was already past 6 PM when she was startled by Jiang MingYuan's call.

The man was still at work. She could hear others greeting him from time to time from his end. "You are not home yet?"

"No." Cheng Huan patted herself on her forehead. Annoyed at herself, she said, "My alarm didn't go off. I have forgotten to pick XingXing up."

"It's fine. I had someone picked him up already." Jiang MingYuan chuckled and handed his phone over to XingXing. The little boy's milky voice came over the receiver immediately. "Mom, what say Dad and I come and pick you up?"

Cheng Huan had a pretty good idea whose idea this was. Given that Jiang MingYuan's company wasn't too far away from her restaurant, she agreed to it.

Jiang MingYuan took the phone back after she agreed and said in a low and melodious voice. "We will be there in 20 minutes. You wait there docilely."

"Okay. I get it." Cheng Huan rubbed her face on her end, hung up on the phone, removed her apron and started cleaning herself up.

After spending an entire day where it was greasy, her entire body felt greasy. Cheng Huan washed her face, changed into her backup set of clothes, combed her hair again, picked up her purse and was about to walk out.

By the time she got to the door, someone else came running up behind her. Cheng Huan turned and found out that it was Shen Xi.

"You are still here?" Cheng Huan was a little surprised. She thought she would be long gone by now. Shen Xi was not a patient person as far as she could remember.

Shen Xi didn't look too happy. "When did I saw I was leaving?"

"Okay. My fault." Cheng Huan smiled patiently. "Are you heading home now?"

She did not tell her that Jiang MingYuan and XingXing were going to pick her up. In her selfish way, she did not wish her to meet up with XingXing.

"Sure." Shen Xi followed behind Cheng Huan with an unhappy look out of the shopping mall.

Cheng Huan thought that Shen Xi would part with her after they've walked out of the shopping mall but, to her surprise, Shen Xi, too, waited to one side, with no intention of leaving.

"Is there anything else?"

Shen Xi was surprised, "Aren't you going to give me a ride?"

"I..." Cheng Huan didn't know what to say. She had, indeed, picked her up this morning. It'd make sense that she would drop her off in the evening. She thought about a few excuses but finally pulled out her car key from her purse and handed it over to Shen Xi. "I need to go somewhere tonight. Why don't you take my car?"

Shen Xi glanced over at her key and turned away. "I don't know how to drive."

"Take a taxi then?"

"Don't feel like it."

"Subway?"

"Too crowded."

So much for that.

Cheng Huan had no idea what was up with her today. She had declined all means of transportation as though her driving her back was the only option.

Even Cheng Huan was getting annoyed at Shen Xi's being unreasonable. She decided to stop talking.

When Cheng Huan stopped talking, Shen Xi, too, quieted down. She looked at Cheng Huan's side profile for a long while before she finally said, "I want to see my son."
