Alexis ...
What am I doing? The contract said to find a bride ... not to kidnap one! Though in my defense, it didn't exactly come with an instruction manual on how to find the perfect bride ... let alone marry her in one hundred days either.
I had no idea my reaction would be so eccentric. Naturally, my first instincts - after saving a woman's life and making sure that she was ok - would be to kidnap her when I was under tremendous pressure ha ha ha ... no.
I am usually calm, collected and confident but it was as if the moment she said the words 'I have to go home' something snapped within me. And I ... couldn't let her go.
Dante opened the door while I drew the nameless beauty into my arms. It felt like she weighed no less than a pound but that's just me. Her eyes were closed shut doing me a favor, since I wouldn't feel the heavy weight of staring into them, even after committing an act so criminal. It did nothing to vanquish the guilt that grew more intensely within me every passing second and with every glance at her.
Mario caught the keys that Dante tossed to him. He got into the driver's seat before the distinguished hum of the car was heard as he took it to parking. Dante followed behind me as I carried her across the polished floors of the foyer into the living area placing her unconscious body on the sofa.
I stared at her for a few seconds, taking off the jacket of my tailored suit placing it on the coffee table ahead of the sofa before I abruptly sat on the table myself. My hands intertwined in front of me before raking through my hair.
"Nova," I called to the open and at once my middle-aged caretaker entered the living area from the hall advancing towards us.
"Mr. Mega?" She replied, standing beside Dante who folded his arms before both glanced at the woman on the sofa.
"Please get me an aspirin and prepare a room for our guest."
"Of course, Mr. Mega." She nodded curtly before leaving the room.
"Alexis," Dante spoke softly. "What are you doing?"
"I think I've lost my mind," I finally looked at him meeting his casual expression. "But I think I have a way to fix this."
"You're letting her go before she wakes up so it's as though this never happened?" Dante asked in a monotone.
"No," I glanced at her feet. "Ballet, she dances."
"How could you possibly know that?" Dante asked his voice finally rising in pitch a bit.
"A ballerina's legs tells all," Was all I answered before Nova entered the room again.
"Mr. Mega, your aspirin." She said placing the packet and a glass of water beside me.
"Thank you,"
