Dido ...

Marriage was a sacred institution that had to be thoroughly revised and thought through before making a soul-binding commitment to another. Both parties were making a covenant with God, and that wasn't to be taken lightly.

Nowadays, most people got married for status, wealth and altogether personal gain. As if it wasn't nearly bad enough, they entered into holy matrimony only to commit adulterous acts, against their partner and most importantly God.

My heart bleeds for the lost couples of the now. Love seemed reduced to just a four letter word.

Fortunately for me, I had witnessed a love so potent that it was the sole reason I became obsessed with the notion. I became a hopeless romantic.  I had none to thank for that but my own mother and father.

What they had was so real. They were always in sync, and even when they argued it was something to behold, because that love was present. They seemed to match each other, rhythm for rhythm. I couldn't help but be moved by it.

My heart had become a causality of life, of love, that day when I'd received the news that shattered my world. It's so unfortunate that most know a shallow love, or lust. Few are blessed to find a soul to match theirs, only to become victims of time, age, accidents, diseases, crimes and wars.

I found the one place to possibly bury my thoughts and avoid Alexis. Two birds ... one stone. For what it was worth, his library was the single most beautiful feature of his home. A soft rug adorned the marble floors, competing only with the immaculate texture of the plush loveseat. I'm so grateful that I had the pleasure of indulging in it.

There was a neat little cellar to the right of the floor-to-ceiling bookshelf, which spanned from one wall of the room, fully flushed with books of nearly all genres. To top it all off, a floor-to-ceiling glass window displaying a beautiful picturesque garden was stationed to the left of the loveseat with a door to enter the garden. It was beautiful and mostly, I felt at home here.

While I've been Alexis's guest or roommate, I've found myself hiding out here when I was not practicing my ballet. It was silly to think I could do this forever considering this was his home. Eventually he would come across me, seeing as it was a very good library, and I most certainly treasured it.

Closing my most recent indulgence about the South American Amazon river, which I found keenly interesting, I stood from the loveseat, strolling over towards the bookshelf in search of a new book. My eyes fleeting over the assortment of books, stored on the different levels of the shelf, until they lingered on one in particular. I climbed the rolling-ladder to fetch the book.

Goodness! Being average height, I tried with urgency to reach the item of interest, only just barely catching the book, costing me my balance. I braced for the impact, that would surely come, from being six feet in the air. It didn't. I opened my eyes, now aware of the muscly sinewed arms around me. With balance restored, I studied the owner, not sure whether to be happy or appalled that he'd caught me.

"It's official, I can't keep my hands off of you." His words registered even as they vibrated between us.

"Alexis!" I sighed involuntarily, causing him to chuckle. "Thank you for catching me, but could you please put me down?"

"Though I am tempted not to, I will do as you wish Ms. Belle." Alexis offered a sensuous smile before releasing me from his grasp.

"Thank you for resisting temptation." I breathed out, causing him to chuckle, as I drew loose curls that had gone astray settling against the sides of my face.

"And quite tempting you are, Ms. Belle." He said, catching my attention.

"How long were you standing there?" I asked, uncertain of whether I should be grateful or alarmed that he had been standing there.

"Long enough to note that you a clumsy one, though you are graceful about it." Alexis eyed me with interest. "Anyway, I've come to fetch you. If you'd be so kind as to accept our invitation. Nova is frantic that I didn't invite you to have dinner with us the previous nights. However, I am fairly certain had I asked, you would've declined. Am I incorrect to assume as such?"

"There's that possibility." I didn't know how to feel about Alexis. Considering his advances towards me, it was quite unlikely that I would've accepted the invitation. However, I didn't want to be rude, in light of our arrangement.

"Now my mother raised me to be a gentleman, so I've come to escort you to the dining room." He studied me, his expression quite concealed, in comparison to his usual status. "May I?"

I nodded snaking my arm around his. Alexis was quite muscular. I could see as such. The man wore an off-gray t-shirt which, clung to his upper arms and torso. Silence followed, as we strolled from the hallway to the dining room. It was a long way from the library, which was in the left wing of the house.

"Is she here?" I asked, a bit curious and in strong distaste of the silence between us.

"Who, my mother?" Alexis queried, turning to appraise me.  "No, she isn't."

His voice held an edge that wasn't there before. I didn't press the issue, sensing it was uncharted waters. His jaw contorted in tension.

"I'm sorry I asked." I apologized, a bit embarrassed.

"It's alright," He offered, seemly a bit detached from reality at the moment. "You couldn't have known."

Again, a silence fell heavily between us as we strolled along the intricate hallway. There was nothing I had seen, that hadn't taken my breath away in this place. The corridor was no exception. It oozed of Greek carpentry. It was as if we had set foot in the country itself.

"May I ask when will we begin our lessons?" I asked. He turned to me abruptly, a sinful smile plastered on his handsome face.

"Of course. I would've gotten right into it, but you need to adjust to the environment. That and I had a few matters to take care of." Alexis explained. He seemed almost amused that I brought it up. "If it's alright with you, how does tomorrow evening sound?"

"Perfect," I couldn't help the smile that crept unto my face and Alexis seemed to notice. "Thank you."

"You're welcome," With his free hand, he reached out to bring my head closer to his. My breath became shallow at the anticipation of another of his kisses, much to my chagrin. He brought our heads together, only so that our foreheads met, which to my surprise left me disappointed as I gazed into his beautiful orbs. "Always."

Coming to my senses, I pulled away to make account of what just happened, or rather what I wanted to happened just moments ago. Was this what it would be like living with Alexis all the days of my life? If so then it was going to be a rather long engagement. What's worst? His room was just down the hall from mine. How could I manage that?

Just then we entered the dining room, to be met with the sight of Danté and Nova preparing a place for four, at the large wooden dining table. They both smiled, making me that much more aware at our linked arms. I was tempted to step away, but Alexis wasn't having it. We stood there, until they'd finished setting the table. We descended the short flight of steps, as he guided me to a seat at the table, pulling out the chair for me.

I released his arm to be seated,  altogether impressed by his gentleness. How did I get to be so lucky? If that is, what it was. Alexis sat beside me, and I couldn't help but be completely overwhelmed by his proximity.
