Alexis ...
There was something about that little lady that got to me.
No sooner had we met when I learnt that she had received an eviction notice.
Her world was probably spinning off its axis and yet, her vibrancy and hope seemed to remain intact. Even her sweet nature.
Anyone else might have taken the event as a major blow, but not her.
To say I was impressed, would be to drastically understate things a bit.
As if on cue, Dido entered the dining room. She made her way to the table, approaching the spot beside me. I stood from my seat to pull the chair for her. I don't know why I was compelled to do it.
Women expected men to be chivalrous. They demanded it, and yet some made a whole show out of exploiting a man's gentle side, as though that meant they had some claim to his heart.
Though it's what my parents groomed in me, for that reason alone, I could forget it altogether. But it was different this time, I found myself wanting to do this for her.
"Good morning," She greeted with a smile.
"Good morning," Nova, Dante and I reciprocated.
Dido blushed, her pale eyes focusing on me. A small 'thank you' escaping those full lips of hers at my gesture.
"You're welcome," I returned. She nodded before fixing her attention elsewhere. "I trust you slept well?"
"Yes, as a matter of fact, I did," She beamed. Her smile was infectious. Beyond that, she was radiant this morning. "Thank you for asking."
"Good, because as Nova says, 'A good rest and a hearty breakfast are critical for a good start to a good day'." I imitated, winning a hearty chuckle from Dido.
"It's true dear, though the boy had no need to sass me." Nova began, sparing me a stern eye, placing a cup of tea before our guest. She knew I meant nothing by it, that I was only teasing. Her face softened before she spoke next. "Your body and your mind need to be on the same page. I'm sure being a ballerina you've probably heard that before?"
"I concur," Dante finally folded his paper, placing it beside him on the table. He prepared himself a generous plate before he dug in.
"Well not exactly, but I've read about it before." Dido said, there was something in her tone that piqued my interest. "Wow, Nova this spread is just the stuff of dreams."
"Thank you dear," Nova blushed at the compliment. "I aim to please."
Dido popped a seedless grape into her mouth and moaned, unbeknownst to her, the effect it would have on a man like me. Good lord, how would I survive breakfast?
She helped herself to an egg roll, baked potatoes, sausages, bacon and toast. I studied her, quite intrigued.
Most women I'd dined with, in the past, were mindful of what they ate, and their portion sizes. Dido actively participated in her meal, holding nothing back. It was beyond attractive, and no wonder she filled out her clothes so nicely.
