"Are you sure she's fine? Nothing happened to her right?!""Like I said she is currently resting at the infirmary and said that she will be back after getting a good rest."
"If I heard you laid hands on her...!!!"
"Like I said..."
This pointless argument I'm having now is with none other than the blond beauty Isabel herself.
Not soon after what happened at the mobile infirmary, the doctor came with the supplies for the bedridden boy along with the students. It seemed like they were also stranded in the wild. At the time I was kind of glad that I knew these parts well.
And now that the doctor was there I thought it would be better if I let them be and came here only to get myself into this pointless interrogation.
"Well it's a good thing that she's safe and Glenn picked up the supplies by himself afterwards. So I think you should leave it at that for now and get along."
"But Alex he-"
Alex smiles affectionately at Isobel which makes her stand dazed.
-Can't really blame her for that. This guy is quite the charmer after all.
"Well if you insist." She stormed straight at me pointing her finger and said, "And you, don't get cocky! I will be sure to ask Lizzie about this later."
"Right...right."
I let out a sigh of relief. With this things are settled and I can go back and do my thing. That's what I thought but-
"Hey, you got some real guts if you think that we'll believe what you just said."
It's the bickering boy, Chris. Honestly, I was just thinking about when he'll start to yell about this.
"For what it's worth who knows if you two were running around just so that both of you can escape from doing this."
As he continued with his bickering, I ignored him and turned to Alex.
"I'm here now so everything's solved, right? So what do I do now?"
"There is nothing to do since the work is finished."
He was busy packing the equipment we used before.
Now that I look at it they were saying the truth. For a quick cleanup, they were quite thorough and it's impressive that they did it in a short period of time.
"You know, Daniel was the one who did most of the work since he said that he wanted to sleep as soon as possible."
He was sleeping beneath a tree without a care.
"Wait, if all he came here was just to take a nap, couldn't he just do it in his own home? Like seriously, why did he even come in the first place then?"
My remark was immediately opposed by the self-proclaimed worker girl who was drinking water till now.
"So you didn't know?"
"Didn't know what?"
As I asked her, Alex jumped out from the ground like he was having a sudden realisation.
"Glenn, I'm sorry that I didn't tell you about this before. "
"About what?" I was feeling restless after Alex's reaction and he immediately bowed down to me as he explained the reason.
"Actually all the students who are participating in this excursion are getting credit points. Mr.C informed me of this yesterday and I passed this message to everyone in the group chat and I forgot that you are not in it. So if you didn't participate now it would be my fault and I'm sorry for that."
Alex was facing me with guilt while I just stood there baffled.
"Wait, that's all? I thought it was something more serious. If that's all then you don't have to worry about it. "
"But still, it was my responsibility and I couldn't even accomplish that."
"No, seriously, I'm fine. Don't think too much about it. In fact, I should be the one who's sorry."
I tried to consolidate him as much as I could because it was kind of my fault as well since I didn't give my contact details to anyone in the class. So even if he did remember to contact me, he couldn't have. Besides it was not that big of a deal for me anyway.
As Alex was going to say something a voice interrupted us from behind.
"Fine both of you are guilty, now shut it. I am trying to sleep here."
Daniel, who was annoyed by our rambling fired back at us before going back to sleep again.
Silence befell us as we watched each other like idiots before Alex started to laugh.
Isabel and Chris also started to giggle silently while hiding their faces.
"He is something else isn't he?" said Alex as he looked at the sleeping Daniel.
Chris jumped straight at Alex screaming.
"Right!!! He really is the best!!!"
After seeing his joyous expression and our previous encounters I realized something that I think I would be better off not knowing.
That this red hot-headed guy is a hopeless fanboy of Daniel.
As the laughter started to fade into the wind, a slim figure interrupted us.
"Sorry, I'm late everyone..."
"Liz, you're back!!! "
Isabel warmly welcomed the shy girl Liz as she tried to check her all over.
"You're not hurt, right? Please tell me you're not..." Isobel was anxious but this time Liz kept her cool.
"I'm fine, honestly. Thanks for worrying about me."
Even though she is looking fine now that she is properly rested I couldn't help but feel like it was my fault and felt that I should apologize.
"That was quicker than I thought.", I enquired.
"The doctor said that I should be fine by now so I just decided to leave."
Feeling it as an opening I tried to say those words that struck my mind with guilt.
"So hey, I'm sorry about before. "
She looked at me with embarrassment before hiding her face behind her hat.
"No, if anything I'm the one who should be sorry for all the things I've done."
"Even so let me apologise."
Maybe it's because it's been decided that the verdict is not guilty that Isabel didn't lash out at me like before and just listened.
"No, you don't have to..."
Her voice was trembling as she could cry at any moment and I realized that I shouldn't force her like this anymore.
Gladly Alex intervened at the right moment.
"I think you should both stop with the apologising now since someone here is not fond of that..."
As he said that all of our gazes fell toward where Daniel was sleeping soundly while Liz looked at us dumbfounded not knowing what they meant.
"Yes, I think you're right. Let's stop it here."
Even when Isabel was saying that I noticed a smile blooming on her face and everyone agreed with what she said.
Just like that, we wrapped up our first job successfully.
I wanted to express how we all grew closer during this time, marking the start of our newfound camaraderie. However, regrettably, this tale doesn't revolve around friendship and happy endings; rather, the worst is yet to come for all of us.
