Rafe speaks up, "what the fuck was that?"
He looks to his dad for an answer, but Dominic steps in, obviously aware of how uncomfortable I am. "Madelyn, please excuse my brothers. One," he waves towards the door, "has no right to question your character as he did. And the other," he gestures to Rafe, "needs to remember how we speak in front of a lady, especially one that's an employee of our fathers company. I apologize on behalf of both."
Dimitri relaxes and slaps his son on the back in a fatherly way. "Thank you, Dominic. I hope you three will excuse me, I need to go find Donovan and figure out what's going on with him." Turning to his sons, "How about you two work on breakfast, we haven't started our day yet." With that, he walks out without a glance at me.
Dominic turns to Rafe, "you and Madelyn handle breakfast? I'll get our bags unloaded."
Rafe nods his head, and jokingly bows to me, "what would a beautiful madam like yourself prefer for breakfast?" Laughing we head to the kitchen. I see Rafe is going to be the one to lighten the mood. For that, I'm grateful.
We chat as we move about the kitchen making breakfast. He's proving to be every bit the comedian I thought he was. He also filled me in on his family a bit more. Donovan is divorced, for about 5 years. He also has a daughter from that marriage who he doesn't get to see often as her mother moved out of state following the divorce. Dominic is in a longterm situation with a woman named Lauren. Rafe is currently engaged after getting back together with his college sweetheart a couple years back. Their wedding is early next year. I've noticed he seems to be a flirt, but he lights up when talking about April. Then there is Gio, the married family man.
While we work, we can hear the others move through the house. At one point there is some muffled shouting from upstairs in the office. Which earns me a sympathetic grin from Rafe, "ignore them. Dad and Donovan are always at odds over the company. Dad wanted us all to take over, only Donovan stepped up. But now, Dad doesn't want to listen to any suggestions or ideas."
I finish setting out our drinks and Rafe yells out that breakfast is done. I make my plate and take a seat at the table. One by one the Carrington men enter the kitchen and do the same. Rafe sits next to me, Donovan and Dimitri at opposing ends of the table with Dimitri to my left, and Dominic across from Rafe.
We all begin to eat, and Dimitri kicks off conversation. "After breakfast, Donovan, Madelyn, and I will be working upstairs. Not sure what you two have planned, but what do you guys say to all of us heading to Red Stag for dinner tonight? Say around 1900?"
Everyone seems to agree, and I remain silent. "You too, Madelyn," Dimitri says.
"Oh! Um, sure. I rode with you, so I thought it went without saying that I go where you go." I laugh.
The mood is lighter after we eat. We all clear our dishes and I begin to work on filling the sink to wash them when I feel someone approach. Next thing I know , there's a hand around my wrist, "I'll get these. I don't think 'personal assistant' implies dish duty."
I'm startled as I turn to see Donovan looking down at me. "I don't mind! Really. There are 6 of us at home, dishes are a part of my life."
He looks angry again as his eyes travel over me. "That's some outfit. Not your normal office attire, is it?" His jaw tightens and his finger runs along my bare shoulder, tracing my tattoo before his hand drops. "He's married."
I square up then, "so am I."
He takes a step back and runs his eyes over me more slowly, over every curve, "Is this how i can expect you to dress around the office now?" I feel myself flush. "Head upstairs. Dads already working, I'll get these done and join you."
I don't justify a response. What can I say? I'm sleeping with his father. And I am quite certain he knows. I immediately head to the office. Dimitri is up and moving to me as soon I get there. He immediately pulls me to him and kisses my head. "I'm sorry, Madelyn."
He holds me and I know we only have a few minutes before Donovan joins us. "Dimitri. He knows. He knows and he isn't happy."
Dimitri steps away from me and nods. "I know. He accused me when I went out to talk to him. Said it was obvious the moment you came in the room. I tried to deny it, but I know he didn't buy it. We have to be careful, Madelyn. I won't risk losing my family."
That triggers me, "excuse me? Because you're the only one with a family at risk here? My children are still at home. My youngest is only five years old!"
He steps toward me, "you think I don't know that? Of course your family matters, but they aren't here. Let's just get through the day." He walks away from me and collects some things, "I'm going to check on the conference room at the resort. Probably best if you stay here with him. We will figure out how to get you in my bed tonight." He comes over to me and slides a hand up my sweater, running his thumb over my bra covered nipple. Kissing my collar bone, he lets me go. "See you at dinner." With that he's gone.
I move to my work area and sit down, just as Donovan enters. He sits at his dads desk and turns to me. "When did it begin?" I don't have to ask what he's asking.
"Dono..."
He stands up, "don't lie to me Madelyn!" He's raising his voice, but not shouting. "He's twenty years older than you. At least!" His hands are now on his hips. "I don't give a damn if you want to throw your marriage away, but for him?"
I feel tears spilling. "Your accusations are baseless," I manage to say. Standing up, I leave the office and head to my room. I sit on the bed crying. I look up when my door opens. Wiping my tears away quickly, "not finished finding pretty ways to call me a whore?"
His eyes look everywhere but my face, "I'm sorry I accused..." he stops. Anger flashing again. He walks to the foot of my bed and picks something up, throwing it on the bed. I look at what it is. A pile of clothes. Mine from yesterday and the sweatpants Dimitri wore when he came to my room yesterday morning.
I look up at him and all I can say is, "I'm sorry. I didn't plan this. But please, you have to believe me. It just started. It was a weak moment between us."
He laughs. "You think you're the first? He doesn't care about you, Madelyn. You're just another employee he's taking advantage of. When I heard he was bringing you here, I called my brothers to plan our trip. I knew he wouldn't be able to keep his dick in his pants."
