Dally just sat there for a minute, I could tell he was a little hesitant on telling us the story of why he just disappeared.
"Well?" I uttered.
"Oh..okay yeah the story." He chuckled nervously.
He took a deep breath.
"Okay so the night before I left, I was doing the usual, partying at Bucks place. Well I was already a little buzzed so I was sorta out of it. I saw a girl that caught my eye, she was a pretty broad. I started talking to her, she started acting like she wanted me to get lost, but I guess the buzz got to me. Then some guys walked up and said "Hey she's our girl pal now beat it." Then that's when I realized I had screwed up. This broad was a soc," Dally paused.
"Dally...what happened?" All the color drained from my face.
"Relax kid I didn't kill anyone." Dally rolled his eyes.
I breathed a sigh of relief.
"Man you had me scared Dallas!" I yelled.
"Shut up and listen." He punched my shoulder.
"Oh yeah and what are you idiots gonna do about it? Is it what I replied with. That's when all heck broke lose I beat a couple of the socs and the rest of them tried to chase me down. I lost them after a while and I went straight for the Curtis House. I know you always cook breakfast Syd, so I wrote that note and put it on the milk where I knew you'd find it."
I didn't know what to say or what to do really. I looked at Ponyboy and Johnny and they both had the same shocked looks on their faces.
"Dally do you know what this means? It's probably gonna cause an all out greaser vs soc war!" I started to panic.
"Look kid calm down it's cool," a dangerous smirk appeared on his face, "I gotta plan."
Dally told us his plan to get us back to Tulsa without any socs seeing him. They usually travel in packs so us three couldn't face them alone if they confronted us.
We got on the Windrixsville train to go back to Tulsa.
"Man I hope this plan works." I whispered to myself. Johnny leaned over and kissed me on the cheek.
"Me too."
I could see the concern in his deep brown eyes.
We hopped off the train and made sure Dally was at least somewhat disguised.
Him and ponyboy switched shirts and he was wearing a pair of black shades to hide his eyes.
Seeing him in Ponyboy's too small sweatshirt made me giggle.
I tried to cover up my laughter but Dally caught on.
"Shut your trap Syd. I make this look good." He winked at me and I rolled my eyes at him.
We walked through town, hiding in the shadows, ducking behind signs, then finally relief washed over me as my house came into view, i ran through the front door and quickly pulled Dally, Pony, and Johnny in and slammed the door shut.
I turned around to see Two-Bit, Darry, Steve, and Sodapop all shook up.
"Dallas Winston is back baby." Dally lit the smoke that was between his lips and smirked.
