I was back down there. The basement from my old home, located in the outskirts of Zaun. My mom had told me to go remind my dad it was time for dinner. Whenever my dad wasn't at work, he'd be holed up in that basement continuing his personal project he was so obsessed with completing.

When I reached the bottom of the staircase, I saw a bright blue light emanating from the crack underneath the door. I approached it carefully, and knocked on the door waiting for my dad's response. I didn't hear one so I opened the door and let myself in.

The light was even brighter here, I had to shield my eyes with my hand to try to see what was in front of me. I was able to make out the figure of my dad and his work station.

Y/N: D-Dad, mom made dinner. It's time to eat.

I guess he heard me this time because he stopped working and the light in the room died down. He turned to me, still holding a device in his hand. I assumed this is what he had been working on all this time

Father: Y/N, did you say something, son?

Y/N: Y-Yeah, dinner is ready.

I looked at the device in his hand. It was round, metallic, and about the size of a volleyball with two handles sticking out on opposite sides of each other. It gave off the same kind of light from earlier and some sort of energy could be seen pulsing from inside of the device through its open panels. It had a small silver button at the top and a bunch of wires connected to it at the bottom that led to large machines and computers laid out throughout the basement.

Y/N: Hey, dad, is that what you've been working on? What is it?

He looked at the device, smiled at it, then looked back at me. He crouched down to my level to look me in the eyes and then placed one hand on my shoulder while still holding onto the device.

Father: This, my son, is my greatest achievement, my masterpiece. Besides you, of course. It will make us just like them. Perhaps even greater. It should be at full power now if my final calculations are correct. Why don't we give it a test run?

I nodded out of curiosity about what his masterpiece could do. Also because I could see that agreeing to this would make my dad very happy. He smiled at me and let out a small laugh.

Father: That's my boy. Okay, put your hand on one of the handles and don't let go alright. No matter what.

Again, I nodded my head. He then proceeded to put one of his hands on the other handle and began pressing buttons on the computer behind him. Once he was finished he turned back to me.

Father: Are you ready, Y/N?

Y/N: Yeah, dad. I'm ready.

He nodded and pressed the button at the top of the device. It started glowing again, giving off the same kind light that seeped through the door before I entered. I started feeling a strange tingling feeling coursing through me. Then I felt my hand starting to burn up but I held on like my dad told me to. Sparks started flying from the device. Arcs of electricity shot all around us and I began getting terrified of what might happen. My dad, on the other hand, looked ecstatic. Almost as if everything was going according to his plan. The device glowed brighter and got even hotter. I didn't know what was happening anymore and I wanted to tell my dad to stop this, that I didn't want to do this anymore. But I lost my chance to speak up when everything went white.

That's when I woke up, sweating and in a panic. I take a look at my surroundings to try and calm myself down. I am still in bed, in my dorm, at the academy. Not that damn basement anymore, I am far away from it. It's been so many years since that incident.

Y/N: It was just a dream, Y/N, relax.

I tell myself, still trying to calm down. Then I hear a knock at my door. That could only be one person.
