Evelynn: How much longer 'till we reach the academy?
Y/N: Not much longer, I think we're in the final stretch.
We've been making our way through the train tunnels for a few minutes now. I thought this would have taken less time, but given my current speed, it makes sense. I don't feel comfortable trying to push just how fast I can go grinding on the rails since I'm new to this. But most importantly. I don't want to lose control and hurt Evelynn while she's holding onto me.
Evelynn: Take your time, I'm starting to like the view from here!
I look over my shoulder again, and sure enough, she still has that smile on her face. She must really be enjoying herself to have kept that smile up this whole time. Her yellow eyes shine against the blue sparks coming off of the tracks. Her hair continues whipping around in the air, yet it somehow manages to hold its shape as she brushes some of it behind her ear. I've never really noticed Eve outside of the few classes we had together. But seeing her like this now, I'm starting to regret that.
Evelynn: What are you looking at?
Y/N: Nothing, Eve, nothing.
Evelynn: Then keep your eyes on t- hey, do you hear that?
What is she talking about? Hear what? I close my eyes and try to focus to get a good sense of what it is she's hearing that I can't.
Evelynn: Y/N, Y/N!
Oh no, you've gotta be kidding me.
Evelynn: The damn train is coming!!
Y/N: Just hang on, I'll get us out of here!
I lean forward and boost up my speed on the rails as Evelynn tightens her grip around me. I'm starting to feel the vibrations coming off of the train, reaching my feet as it gets closer to us. The light-hearted moment we had just seconds ago has now abruptly been derailed by the very fast approaching bullet train threatening to crush us.
Evelynn: It's getting closer, Y/N!
When I turn back around, I see the train has passed the same turn we just did and now has its blinding lights shining on us. The rattling of the tracks has now intensified on my feet, causing me to momentarily lose my balance when my left foot slips off. I panic for a moment as I try to get my foot back on the track. Luckily, Evelynn extends her lashers out to both walls of the tunnels to help stabilize ourselves.
Evelynn: Focus up, Y/N! This isn't the best time for you to lose your cool!
Y/N: Right, sorry.
Evelynn: Just focus on not getting us crushed!
Y/N: On it!
I regain my composure on the tracks and boost my speed again. Using my powers to go this fast is draining me more and more, but I don't have a choice right now. I just gotta hope I can keep it up 'till we're outta here. The tracks start going at an upward angle, causing me to lose some of my momentum and exert more energy. When we make it past the rise in the tracks, the train has gotten even closer.
There's a light dimly shining in front of us. That's gotta be the exit of the tunnel! We're so close now.
Wait a minute. If I remember this train route right, there's a sharp turn coming up as soon as we exit the tunnel. At the speed I'm going at, we'd crash through the protective rails and fall onto the oncoming traffic in the streets below. But if I slow down, the bullet train would get us before we even reach that turn. Think, Y/N, you gotta think fast. And act even faster.
Y/N: Evelynn, I got a plan!
Evelynn: Then spit out!
Y/N: When we get out of the tunnel, I'm gonna jump off of the track!
