Fiora: Must you always start these meetings with that obnoxious ringing, Heimerdinger?
Braum: It is tradition, Fiora, you this by now.
Ryze: My grievance has more to do with the fact that he always starts without us.
Yuumi: Yes, he does seem to love doing that.
Heimerdinger: Apologies, friends, I have other matters to attend to, so I'd rather get this done quickly.
Ragnar: A disregard for our own time. Typical.
Leona: Annoying as it may be, he has a point. Let's get to what we're all here for.
Throughout the brief conversation they had as they all took their seats, the five of us had been kneeling down at their steps. At the sound of one banging their gavels, we rise to our feet awaiting what they have to say. Headmistress Fiora straightens some papers she has in front of and clears her throat before speaking.
Fiora: First off, apologies to the five of you for dragging you away from whatever it was you may have had going on. However, we have urgent business that requires your attention. Headmaster Ragnar, if you would please take it away.
He rises from his seat with a scoff and walks to the open space in front of the U-shaped table with a small tablet in hand. He makes a few taps on the tablet before a holographic projection is displayed a few feet away from the rest of us.
Ragnar: What you see before you is an outdated model of one of our training facilities that was destroyed a few days ago.
My blood runs ice cold upon seeing the projection. I feel my body involuntarily stiffen up, and I don't even spare a glance at Evelynn or Ahri for fear that I might give something away. They're probably thinking the same.
Ragnar: Headmaster Heimerdinger's investigation brought no conclusive evidence as to who or what may have caused its demolition. Due to the poor state the facility had been in for years and the lack of any recent records, we had no way of identifying who was behind it.
The tension in my shoulders relieves itself slowly, but I still keep a neutral expression before fully thinking we're in the clear.
Ragnar: That was until we received a disturbing message this morning. The non-powered terrorist group, Rebirth, has claimed responsibility for its destruction.
Victor: Why would Rebirth risk an attack on the academy? Surely, they are aware of the consequences of such an action.
Headmistress Leona rises from her seat and projects a holographic display of her own.
Leona: Over the past few months, the non-powered population of other regions have staged multiple protests. Some of these have led to riots.
She shows us videos of said protests and riots. Officers are restraining the more violent individuals, and some are seen destroying shops or causing all sorts of havoc.
Leona: Investigations in these regions have linked all of this to Rebirth. Up until now, such things have not reached Piltover. In no small part, thanks to the peaceful balance struck between the powered and non-powered communities. We believe now, however, that this attack on our academy is the beginning of their influence creeping its way into our city.
There is no way a stupid bet between Evelynn and I is going to lead to mass civil unrest.
Ragnar: Thus, we will begin implementing new safety precautions to ensure something like this does not happen again.
Especially with our annual tournament fast approaching, we will need your assistance.Ahri: How can we help?
She takes a small step forward ahead of the rest of us, a slight sense of trepidation in her voice.
