I never considered myself a very prideful person, but when Akali said she didn't want my training, I admit that my pride was a bit wounded.
Y/N: You want Evelynn to train you? How come?
Akali: I saw the way she fought you. Everyone of her strikes looked like it was meant to finish the fight. I need that kind of drive if I'm gonna get stronger.
Flashes of our fight race across my mind, thinking about the times Evelynn put me on the backfoot, forcing me to act defensively. Was I subconsciously holding back against her? Or did she just want the win more than I did? Maybe she does have a stronger drive for victory than I do.
Y/N: Ok, I think I get it. But, I don't know if she'll agree. We're all gonna be busy once the tournament is announced. She probably won't have the time to train you.
Akali: Then I'll be her sparring partner. Whatever it takes to learn from her, I'll do it.
The look in her eyes tells me she really wants this. I know the feeling of wanting to get stronger all too well, and I can sympathize. It's hard not to, given what I've gone through to get this far.
Y/N: Alright, I'll see what I can do, but I make no promises.
Akali rushes into me and gives me a tight hug. She has my arms pinned down to my side, so I can't return the hug. She seems to realize how tightly she's holding me because Akali steps away, clearing her throat and looking a bit embarrassed.
Akali: Thanks, Y/N. Let me know what she says, ok?
Y/N: Sure thing. Give me your number so I can tell you what happens.
She nods, pulling out her phone to read out her number. When I'm done adding her to my contacts, she turns back around to her mural.
Y/N: Are you gonna keep working on it?
Akali: Yeah, I don't want to leave it unfinished.
Y/N: You sure about that? It's already pretty late, and I could always walk you to your place before I head back.
Akali: I appreciate it, but nah. Besides, I can handle myself.
Considering how our time together first started tonight, she definitely can. So, with that being said, I say goodbye to Akali and leave her to her art.
This was not how I expected my night to go when I stepped out of my dorm to get some ramen. Not only was my life briefly in danger, but I also got to know Akali better. She was so fun and easy-going at the ramen shop, which was a bit of a contrast with how reserved she was when we first met at the student council meeting. And then when we got out of the restaurant, I heard the vulnerability in her voice as she was talking about her past with her family that then bled into a fiery determination coming from her eyes when speaking about how she wants to get stronger for her own sake. There's so much more to her than I first realized. Hopefully, I can convince Evelynn to train her. Because now, I'm looking forward to seeing how far Akali can go.
Jayce POV
It keeps getting harder to move. The humidity makes it harder to breathe, and the exhaustion just keeps mounting up. Lugging my hammer over my shoulder seems like an almost impossible task as I run on the muddy jungle floor. Making it all the more difficult to run for my life is the constant swarm of missiles that Kai'Sa keeps raining down on me.
Our sparring match only started moments ago, and yet I feel like it's been far longer than that. I've been at a disadvantage since the beginning. I didn't know the entirety of what Kai'Sa was capable of when we agreed to train together. The best I could surmise is that her abilities had something to do with the blasters over her shoulders. What I wasn't expecting was her ridiculous levels of speed and the immense firepower she was packing. What in the world did I sign myself up for?
I get a slight moment's reprieve when the current wave of Kai'Sa's missiles ends. I slump against a nearby tree, setting my hammer down to rethink my strategy. I know I don't have long until she begins another barrage, so I have to come up with something quickly. I'm losing the long-distance battle, but if I try to get in close, I could get overwhelmed by her insane speed.
Jayce: You have to think this through, Jayce.
As the whispered words leave my lips, I see a streak of purple light race by several yards away from me. Kai'Sa has bridged the gap faster than I would have expected. She'll find me any second now. Meaning I have to put my plan into motion. I know this first attack won't land, but I need to get her attention.
I leap into the air, slamming my hammer down into where I saw her running last. Upon impact, a small crater is left, knocking down a few trees in the area. Climbing out of the crater, Kai'Sa skids to a stop a few feet in front of me, blasters aimed at me. I clutch my hammer, ready for what's to come.
Kai'Sa: You had to have known that that wouldn't hit me. What's your plan here?
Jayce: Only one way to find out, right?
A slight smirk spreads across her face as she charges at me. Without a second's hesitation, I activate my Lightning Field that she's running right into. The electric charge is strong enough to stop her in her tracks and then sends her flying back, hitting a tree. Quickly shifting my weapon into its cannon mode, I set an Acceleration Gate and then shot a Shock Blast at the downed Kai'Sa. With unnaturally fast reflexes, she rolls over and fires a Void Seeker that clashes with my blast. The collision of energy explodes, and at such a close distance, we're both sent launching through the jungle.
Luckily for me, because of the crater I created earlier, I hit no trees and just crashed down onto the muddy ground. Although not a part of my original plan, I can still use this to my advantage. Getting back on my feet and ignoring the aches throughout my body, I ready my hammer for another Lightning Field, anticipating her to rush me down as soon as she recovers.
Sure enough, I spot the purple streak of light sprinting at me. But the closer it gets, I notice that the light seems different this time and is approaching way faster than I would've thought before disappearing. This catches me off guard, so I instinctively go to activate my field, but to my surprise, Kai'Sa reappeared right beside me and slams right into my side. The force is not enough to knock me off my feet but to skid back.
Kai'Sa: That trick won't work on me again.
I wasn't planning on it.
She engulfs herself in a dark purple ethereal aura, preparing to charge at me again, but at the same time, she readies her blasters. This is my chance to end this. With a burst of light, she runs at me, and I make it look like I'm going to activate my field again. She takes the bait, sliding to a stop and aiming another Void Seeker missle at me at point blank range. Before she could fire, I transformed my hammer into its Mercury form and swung with a Thundering Blow.
There's a shocked look on her face right before my attack makes contact. Once it does, she is knocked back, viciously crashing through several trees. Barely able to stand anymore, I set my hammer down on the ground and fell down onto my knees. When the jungle around me starts to fade away and the training facility comes back into view, I assume I knocked Kai'Sa unconscious with that last hit. I won.
