i smiled as i watched two-bit and dallas strutting their way to a bar. they had so much personality, i loved that about them. they knew who they were.
we walked alongside each other until two-bit saw a car starting to slowly follow us. i had gotten nervous, i didn't know what to expect at this point.
"just keep walking," two-bit whispered.
i looked over at dallas who didn't look like he even cared he was being followed. the car fully was next to us on the road now, and i looked over to see bob and his friends. i quickly turned back, not wanting them to notice it was me, but it obviously didn't work, because randy loudly called out, "jolene?!"
there was no point trying to hide, they were right next to us, so i stopped walking to face them.
"what are you guys doing?"
"what are you doing jolene? you're supposed to be at home. and why are you walking with these greasers at night?" bob scolded, slightly slurring his words.
"are you drunk?!" i asked, trying to change the subject. i looked over at two-bit who had his hand in his back pocket, i assume holding his blade.
"stop it. you know you're not supposed to hang around this trash." he said, getting irritated.
"who says i couldn't? i don't remember a rule that states i can't make friends."
"c'mon now jolene. you know your parents wouldn't want you out at night especially with them."
"you know what bob? i'm tired of you and my parents always dictating what i do and where i go. just let me be for a night, won't you?"
"get in the car, jolene. i mean it."
"honestly, fuck off bob. you shouldn't even be driving right now." i scoffed.
he looked almost hurt, but he drove off with a scowl on his face. i knew i shouldn't have said those things, especially to my cousin. bob never did anything bad to me in particular, but i was just fed up.
"let's go." i said, not even looking at dallas or two-bit. it was embarrassing, and i felt bad that bob had put them down, although they probably didn't care anyway.
i wrapped my arms around my body, the breeze making my hair go in different directions. we walked to a bar with a big light up sign that wrote "bucks." i stepped on the gravel, making a satisfying crunch as dallas knocked on the door.
"heyy, ol' dally's back." i heard someone say. "c'mon in."
i followed two-bit and dallas inside the building. the intense scent of alcohol immediately hit me as i squeezed in through the people. the room lit with red lights was humid from people dancing. it was uncomfortable, and gross to be honest, but i made sure to not lose dallas and two-bit.
they finally sat down as a rough looking guy gave them drinks. i sat down next to dallas and he held out his drink for me to try. i took the drink from him and took a sniff, giving him a skeptical look. he gave me a "go for it" look and i took a sip. i scrunched my nose at the taste. it was not pleasant and shook my head at dallas. i never understood why people drink. my parents have the occasional glass of wine at events, but they're not big drinkers either.
i looked over to see two-bit gone. i figured he had went to mingle or something.
"can you mix up something lighter for jolene here, buck?" dallas asked the bartender.
"sure thing, coming right up," he said as he went to mix up a drink.
"do you come here often?" i asked dallas.
"if i'm not at the curtis house or locked up, i'm probably here." he replied as he drank his drink.
"so, a lot?"
"yep, i have a room here."
"that's nice." i didn't really know how to hold a conversation with him.
"here ya go, try this." the bartender slid me over a drink, saving me from the awkwardness.
i took a sip, and my eye twitched a bit from the flavor.
"a lot better than whatever he's drinking, thank you." i laughed.
"c'mon, it wasn't that bad." dallas joked.
"no, it definitely was."
he leaned over to dallas, whispering something i couldn't hear.
"nah man," dallas said, clearly not whispering.
"alright, if you say so." the bartender shrugged before moving along to serve someone else.
"i'm gonna try and find two-bit somewhere." dallas said, "i'll be right back."
i drank the rest of my drink, slowly, just in case. i didn't want to go overboard and have a bad experience with my first time drinking. the alcohol tasted cheap, not that i would know, but, it just did. i had to admit, didn't taste horrible. before i knew it, i had finished three more of those drinks when dallas had come back, no two-bit with him.
"i've been gone less than 10 minutes and you already finished four of those?" he raised his eyebrows, surprised.
"i guess... hey, where's two?"
"went home." he shrugged. "or to another party."
"can we danceeee?" i asked smiling.
"no way."
"pleaseeeeeee?" i begged.
"c'mon, we're going upstairs." he said, pulling me up to my feet and leading me up the stairs.
"to dance?"
"no, to get you sobered up enough to go home." he said. "those drinks were clearly not light enough."
he motioned for me to sit down as he took his leather jacket off.
"what do i do?" i asked, not really knowing why i was there.
"take a nap or something, you look drained."
"okay." i started unclipping my shoes. "dalllaassss."
"what."
"can you help mee?"
he sighed before lowering down and undoing my shoes for me. i looked at his hands, gently pulling my shoes off my feet. his hair was so perfectly imperfect, and his body was just drawing me in.
he stood up, noticing me staring at him. "you good?"
"yeah, yeah," i said, also standing up.
i put my hands on his shoulders, and leaned in closer to kiss him. his soft lips pushed into mine as he kissed me back. his arms wrapped around my waist as he turned around to sit on the bed. i was on his lap as our kiss turned into a makeout session.
i trailed my hands down his body until he broke the kiss, "jolene?"
"yes?"
"you're not yourself right now." he said, looking down into my eyes.
"what do you mean?" i asked, wanting more.
"you're drunk."
"aren't you dallas winston?" i giggled. "when have you ever cared about that?"
he chuckled, "it different for you jolene. we can continue this another time."
i got up as he put his jacket back on. i understood where he was coming from and i appreciated it, but...
"i'll drive you home. wait for me downstairs."
"alright."
as i walked down the stairs, i finally started thinking straight. oh my gosh. oh my gosh. i just made out with dallas fucking winston. what was i thinking?! my parents are actually gonna kill me. what am i going to tell them?
as i walked up to the door, i see it open, buck standing there with ponyboy and johnny?
