"johnny? pony?" i was confused. "what are you guys doing here?"
from what i could see, pony's hair as shirt were soaked, and he was shivering. johnny was shaking ever so slightly and he had a panicked expression on his face like he did something wrong.
"jolene! is dallas in there?" he asked, his eyes rapidly looking in.
"yeah, yeah, he's coming down. what happened johnny?" i asked, suddenly starting to get worried.
dallas, who had come down now asked confused, "what are you two doing here?"
"johnny killed a soc." ponyboy was breathing unevenly, shivering every couple of seconds.
"good for you," dally responded. my mouth hung open.
i was hit with a spinning in my head. who did johnny kill? johnny, of all the greasers killed someone? no way.
my head pounded as dallas followed pony and johnny up to his room and i found somewhere to sit. i found a seat and waited until my headache went away and dallas was back. when the three of them finally came down, i looked questioningly at johnny, but he just shot me a worried look before quickly followed pony into the darkness outside.
i stood up and wobbled to dallas. he caught my arms to steady me. "you okay?"
"yeah, yeah. what was that? who did johnny kill?"
"i'll tell you tomorrow. let's just get you home right now. you're not looking too great."
he gripped my arm and led me out to the car. i got into the car as dallas started it. my leg bounced up and down as i anxiously picked at the skin around my nails. i was so tired, i couldn't even tell if this was actually happening. my eyes weren't opening all the way, i was so drained. is this all just a fever dream? no way this is actually happening.
"where did johnny and pony go?" i shifted over to dallas with the little energy i had as he passed the nice looking houses.
"i'll tell you tomorrow." he spoke so calmly, it almost made me think nothing was wrong.
he parked a couple houses away from mine, and asked, "do you think you can walk this far?"
"my parents are probably asleep right now anyway. can you go closer?"
"better safe than sorry, man." he then got out of his seat and went to open my door to help me step out. i hugged his arm, as the night was cold, the wind making the trees sway from side to side.
we made it to the front of my house and i let go of his arm, and kissed his cheek gently.
"i'll pick you up at 9 am tomorrow, alright?" he said, giving me a small kiss on the head.
i nodded and raised my hand the slightest bit to wave before walking into my house. and just like that, the day was over.
