Kai sat opposite Lucius in the man's office, fingers nervously tapping against the leather arm of the chair. He felt cornered right now, and he knew Lucius had planned it that way, it seemed to satisfy the man to get under his skin.

"Where shall I start, Kai? Skipping school, two months detention, a fight in the Great Hall, accusations claiming you are helping your father into the castle or the fact that your grades are slipping?"  Lucius sighed, looking sternly at the boy.

Clenching his jaw, Kai drew in a deep breath, trying to remain calm. "Dealers choice." He muttered, looking down at the floor.

"Very well, let's start from the beginning then shall we?" he asked rhetorically, "It is inexcusable to skip class, I do not care of the circumstances. You can't just refuse to show up to any and all classes for a week."

Kai managed to fight the temptation to roll his eyes, instead he focused on fiddling with his ring. "It won't happen again, I promise." It was easier in the long run to just say what he thought Lucius wanted to hear, but it wasn't always possible for the boy to bite his tongue, and he had a feeling today was one of those days.

"Two months detention?" Lucius asked, raising a brow.

"Was the result of skipping class, I never missed one." The boy murmured.

There was little Lucius needed to add to that, so he simply nodded. "The fight in the Great Hall?"

"A Gryffindor started it, and he finished it. I just told him to stay away from me." he sighed, playing with the hem of his hoodie.

"You didn't fight back?" Lucius questioned, the way he asked told Kai he didn't believe him.

"No, I swung back once, but other than that I didn't fight back." he muttered, already bored of this conversation.

"You know what they will say if you start fighting back, don't you?"

"They already say those things, but, it's why I didn't fight back." he sighed, blue eyes moving to meeting Lucius' gaze. "And I'm not helping father into the castle either, I've not seen or spoken to him. I know what people are saying, but we knew they were going to say it."

"Kai, there are countless students saying they believe you are the one helping your father into the castle, and with you being late to the Halloween feast it's causing the Ministry to question it too." The blond told the boy, his hand tightening on his cane. "You have to understand how it looks."

"I do, Remus already lectured me about it. And if the Ministry really wants to talk then I will, but I'm not helping him. I swear." he huffed, looking away again.

"That's another thing to add on to, Remus Lupin." Lucius said, his eyes narrowing at the boy.

"You can't be serious right now?" The boy could feel himself getting angry, but he was trying his best to remain as calm as he could so he could avoid being grounded.

"I'm deadly serious." The man replied firmly.

Letting out a heavy sigh, Kai shook his head. "What do you want me to do, avoid him? He's my godfather."

"You know his papers were fraudulent, it was decided by the court. He was a friend of your father's and he is dangerous. I want you to stop seeing him beyond classes."

"I'm not doing that." Kai said flatly, glaring at Lucius now. There was no way in hell he was going to avoid seeing Remus just because some blond prick thought he could control his life in and out of school.

"If you don't, then I'll have no choice but to write to the school board and see that Remus is fired." Malfoy had a plan for young Black, and he wasn't going to let Remus Lupin take the boy off course.

Kai clenched his jaw, "Is there anything else or can I leave?"

"I want to hear say it. That you won't be seeing Remus Lupin outside of your classes with him. And we still have the matter of your grades slipping." Lucius pressed.

The boy took a deep breath, "I won't see Remus outside of my classes with him." He muttered, the hell he would but if he needed to say it then fine. "And I'll get my grades up. I'm already working on extra credit work for those classes."

"Good. You are dismissed."

Getting up from his seat, and walking to the door.

"Oh and Kai, if I find out you've gone back on your word to stop seeing Remus he will be off the school grounds before the next morning. And you'll find yourself being transferred to a different school." The man added, a small smirk on his lips.

"Understood." The boy muttered before leaving the office and making a beeline for his room, slamming the door behind him as he entered and launching the closest things he could reach, which happened to be a book, across the room.

Sept had a feeling the conversation wouldn't have gone well, leaving his cousin for a little while before going to knock on his door. He didn't wait for permission before entering, finding the boy sat on his window nook, looking out at the ground surrounding the house.

"I'm assuming it didn't go well?" Sept sighed softly, moving into the room and closing the door behind him.

"I'm not allowed to speak or see Remus outside of class, and I need to talk to the Ministry about the rumours of me helping my father." he murmured, not bothering to turn around to look at Sept. "The rest of it was just me apologising for shit."

The older boy sat beside the dark haired boy, looking at him sympathetically. "How will he know if you see Remus outside of class?" he asked, trying to find ways to help.

"I don't know.. Draco maybe? House elves? Paying other students? If I get caught then Remus gets fired and I get transferred." he told his cousin. "I fucking hate him, Sept. Remus is one of the few people in that castle who makes all this shit with my father tolerable. It's like he's trying to get me to lose my goddamn mind." he sighed, running his hands over his face in frustration.

"I'll make sure you can see him, don't worry. I'll help anyway I can." He was entirely sure why his father was so fixated on making Kai's life harder right now, but he'd try his best to find out.

"Thanks for the offer, but I don't know if I can risk costing Remus his job. It's not like there is a lot of options for him." He mumbled, shaking his head. "This is so fucked."

They both looked to the door as they heard a knock, one of the house elves letting them know dinner was ready.

Sept offered the other a hand, "Come on let's go eat."

He shook his head, "I'm not hungry and I don't want to sit with your father and act civil right now. You go though, I'll find you tomorrow morning?"

The older boy frowned, he hadn't seen Kai at breakfast that morning, and he wasn't sure if he ate lunch. But he nodded, "Ok. If you want I can bring you a plate up later?"

Kai shook his head again, "I just want to go to sleep to be honest, Sep."

Reluctantly the other boy nodded, "Ok then, I'll see you in the morning." he smiled softly, heading out of the room and down to the dining room table.

Kai unpacked, and got changed before opening one of his muggle books, and distracting himself in the world of Lord of the Rings.

**Another short chapter. I'm sorry, the next one will be longer, I promise.**
