Shuichi has been waiting for almost an hour for his blind date to show up, so he decides to cut his loses and leave. Heading out of the café, he accidentally walks into Kokichi - who is on a blind-date as well. Neither know each other, or who they're supposed to meet - so the obvious assumption is the stranger they've met who's also on a blind date is their date.

This assumption, of course, does not get corrected during the fic - but them going on a blind-date together does.

Prompt : Blind Date

Shuichi shouldn't have gotten his hopes up this much, he supposed. Although, when Kaito had said he found a funny, kind, and overall charming person who was potentially interested in Shuichi, he should've asked more questions. Because, the more he reflected on his own, it was a small miracle that he and Maki had ended up confessing to each other, and he wasn't exactly the best at setting up blind-dates. He was a good wingman however, at least apparently he was (Shuichi didn't have that much courage).

So now, as Shuichi sat alone at the café, he was simply people watching. Seeing if anyone who was coming towards the place had purple hair and eyes that looked like rose quartz (Kaito's words, not his). And there wasn't anyone. A few colourful hairstyles, yes - but the closest thing he'd seen to purple had been a girl's jacket as she was walking past, and that wasn't at all what he was after. Eventually, he went to take another morose sip of coffee before realising that he'd drunk it all. Some hopelessly romantic part of him said to wait, but the other part said to give up.

He was lucky it was common practice to stay on your own for so long in cafés, because otherwise he would have been getting a lot of pitiful looks. Deciding to cut his losses, Shuichi put on his coat and stood up to leave - grateful he'd paid at the counter. Leaving the café, and looking down in a slightly self-pitying way, Shuichi took a few steps before suddenly colliding into someone.

Taking a sudden breath, he stumbled back a few steps into the wall- reaching out blindly to try and catch the person he'd walked into. Although, based on how he felt - it was probably more accurate that they had run into him. Managing to grab a hand, Shuichi pulled up gently - getting the stranger onto their feet, and trying not to blush at the close proximity. His immediate reaction, a few years of being a detective, made him briefly look the person up and down - which only worsened the blush more.

Shuichi had accidentally walked into someone who was almost completely his type. They had shorter, and both controlled but somewhat wild darker purple hair, along with with eyes that sparkled slightly, and looked almost like amethysts. There was a large smile on the stranger's face as well, seemingly no ill will, as he gently took his hand back before saying, "Omigod - hiii!"

"Ummm... hello?" Shuichi responded, hoping he didn't sound as confused as he was.

"Are you my blind-date?" the boy asked immediately, "Oh, introductions; I'm Kokichi Oma."

" I think so?" afterall, what were the odds of both of them being on a blind-date at the same place (even if one of them was an hour late).

"Huh, I totally thought my friend was kidding when he said he found me someone," Kokichi was still smiling, "But wow - you're exactly my type!"

Feeling himself blush furiously, Shuichi briefly averted eye-contact and took a breath, "I-I am?"

"Yup! I hate lies, y'know?" He tilted his head slightly, as if to examine Shuichi from a ninety degree angle, "Or maybe that was just a lie!"

"You hating lies, or me being your type?"

"Me hating lies, I am a liar afterall..." Kokichi seemed to trail off for a second, "But don't worry; half of my lies are told with good intentions."

For some reason, Shuichi hadn't been able to stop himself from smiling the entire exchange, "I didn't think you'd be friends with the person who set us up."
"What can I say?" There was a proud smile on Kokichi's face this time, "I'm just globally adored!"

"Globally?"
"Mhmm. I went to Britain once, and their president proposed to me."

"They have a prime minister."

"Eh, whatevs." Kokichi looked up at Shuichi again, "Oh. You never introduced yourself, am I not yet worthy of your name?"

"No, that's not it at all!" Shuichi reassured, although as he looked into Kokichi's eyes he had the feeling Kokichi was just teasing, "I'm Shuichi Saihara, nice to meet you."

"Geez... that's formal," Kokichi seemed to narrow his eyes, "You have a pretty formal job, right?"

"I do, actually," Shuichi glanced down to see if he had an identification out, "How'd you know?"

"Nishishi, I can read minds!" Kokichi announced, "Or maybe I'm just lying, and I actually searched up everything about you before this date."

"Or maybe you're lying both times," Shuichi pointed out.

"You're pretty mean, y'know," Kokichi said, his eyes suddenly pooling with tears slightly too fast to be real. "Apologise, or I'll cry on you."

"I think you're the first person to ever threaten me with that," Shuichi said, but he couldn't help laughing slightly.

"Are you trying to call my bluff?" Kokichi pouted, "Fine. At least kiss me better."

"I-Isn't it a bit soon?"

"I just meant on the forehead or whatever. What were you thinking of?"

"Oh... nothing."

"Wait, are you blushing?" Kokichi snuck slightly closer, "Awww, I made you blush!"

"I'm..." Shuichi tried not to smile too much, and then decided on a more diplomatic approach, "Where do you want to go?"

"Hmmm." Kokichi looked for a second in front, before spinning around in a full circle, eyes somehow taking in everything around them, "What does my beloved want to do?"

"Your- your beloved?"

Kokichi looks up to Shuichi suddenly, a genuine smile that makes the wait and confusion worth it.

"It's our first date, y'know. I wanna make a good first impression!"
