"Rose! Mickey! Every time," the Doctor says, dragging Quinn around the place. The Doctor complains as they try to find Rose and Mickey.

"Rose?"

"Mickey?" says Quinn.

The Doctor turns to the horse, which is walking behind the two.

"Will you stop following me? We're not your mother and father," says the Doctor.

"I can be his mother," says Quinn with a smirk. The Doctor frowns.

"No. Don't do that," he says.

"Why not?"

The Doctor opens a pair of white wooden doors and bright light floods in. "So this is where you came from, eh, horsey?"

*~*~*

In a corridor, Mickey says, "Blimey, look at this guy. Who does he think he is?"

"The King of France," says the Doctor.

"Oh, here's trouble. What you been up to?" asks Rose.

"Oh, this and that. Became the imaginary friend of a future French aristocrat, picked a fight with a clockwork man."

There's a neigh.

"Oh, and I met a horse," says the Doctor.

"What's a horse doing on a spaceship?" Mickey asks.

"I'm its mother," Quinn states. Rose gives her a look.

"Its mother?" quotes Mickey. Quinn nods.

"Yup! Doesn't have a name yet though," Quinn tells the two. The Doctor rolls his eyes and continues the conversation.

"Mickey, what's pre-Revolutionary France doing on a spaceship? Get a little perspective. See these? They're all over the place. On every deck. Gateways to history. But not just any old history."

Reinette enters the room and curtseys to the King.

"Hers. Time windows deliberately arranged along the life of one particular woman. A spaceship from the 51st century stalking a woman from the eighteenth. Why?"

"Who is she?" asks Rose.

"Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson, known to her friends as Reinette. One of the most accomplished women who ever lived."

"So has she got plans of being the Queen, then?" Rose asks.

"No, he's already got a Queen. She's got plans of being his mistress," the Doctor said.

"Oh, I get it. Camilla."

"I think this is the night they met. The night of the Yew Tree ball. In no time flat, she'll get herself established as his official mistress, with her own rooms at the palace. Even her own title. Madame de Pompadour."

The King and his servants leave. Reinette checks her appearance in the mirror/window.

"The Queen must have loved her."

"Oh, she did. They get on very well," says the Doctor.

"The King's wife and the King's girlfriend?" asks Mickey.

"France. It's a different planet."

*~*~*

Reinette turns to see a woman with her back to her in the corner. It's the clockwork android.

"How long have you been standing there? Show yourself!"

The Doctor grabs a fire extinguisher from Mickey and rotates the mirror. Quinn stands next to him.
