Regarding our holiday program, I knew by heart we shouldn’t have missed this opportunity to have fun, and the only thoughts I had in mind were about visiting places that Laura has never been to before. I packed our clothes and all other necessary things. It was still eight o’clock in the morning, I made a quick satisfying breakfast, moving to different directions in the kitchen waiting for the lady to get up. The moment I checked on the weather through the window, I heard her steps approaching, she came downstairs, and walked through the door.
“Good morning!”
“Good morning.”
“You know...If I wasn’t here with you, I could’ve stayed asleep”.
“Oh!”
“I had a dream inside a dream...and guess what...you were there”.
“that’s cute...tell me about it”.
“I could barely see you, nothing more”.
“For now” she said approaching me “I can touch you...smell you...hear you...I can taste you and use all my senses” she added, making the very first moves. Like a drunk person she was acting, her madness was revealed at last, her insanity and mine seemed to match. Her arms behind my neck were keeping me closer to her, her hair was all over her face, but those lips I touched were no longer as far as I felt them. Eyes closed, total silence was at home, only the birds singing upstairs. A soft kiss could shake our souls from within, our exchanged breath moving like wind in each other’s body. The oven still on, the cake was about to be burned, while that morning act made me forget who I was and where I was, nowhere I could see, completely blind to this divine beauty.
“The cake!” I exclaimed.
I rushed to the oven and turned it off hoping that nothing was burnt yet. Laura panicked not expecting such a reaction and felt scared.
“I’m sorry about that” she said blushing completely keeping her head down.
“No, I apologize for scaring you!” I replied and held her hand reassuring her.
We sat around the table, she cut a small piece and put it in her mouth to taste it, detecting the flavour and the other ingredients within.
“This is so good!”
“Really? I’m happy you liked it”.
“You are a very talented chef”.
“Here, have some” she added.
I took a bite from her hand and began to chew.
“No, that’s my pinkie”.
“it’s mine now!”.
She giggled cleaning my mouth with her thumb and left a mark of chocolate on my nose. I put some chocolate on my finger and ran after her all the way to the bedroom. Our childish behaviour was enjoyable that we never ceased to have fun doing the simplest things.
“Can I tell you a secret?” she declared with pink cheeks as a way of timidity.
I changed my attitude immediately and listened attentively to her.
Her eyes looked up to me with total innocence and took her speech out eventually: “Why don’t you marry me”.
“How cute!” I caressed her lovely face and talked again “I wish I could” I sighed knowing it is only a wish we both dreamt of without considering the consequences, especially myself.
“Why not” she inquired with a sad, broken voice that would break every part of my heart. “Am I not enough?”.
I welcomed the topic the way it came and said things sincerely from my heart, with as much honesty as possible.
“My life is full of risks, and you would be the last thing I would sacrifice”.
“How so?”
“I’m simply a bad guy my dear”.
“What! No! You are the sweetest person alive!”
“Well, isn’t a bad guy a person who opposes governments to fight for what’s right?”
“Right, but...”
“you’ll be their only target, my only weakness and strength”.
“If you will do any of that, I want us to do it together”.
“I believe in you, and I love you!” she added “you matter to me more than any other human being in this entire world”.
She approached me holding my hand saying words I’ve never heard, not even home.
“I wish I could take you with me to the afterlife”.
“I’ll come with you; I’ll be with you”. I replied feeling goosebumps on both my arms and tried to calm my heartbeats.
I wouldn’t have believed it if it wasn’t in front of me; the way she shouted, the way her hands moved from here and there, waking me up and standing beside me with so much power that I couldn’t see but extremely feel. I couldn’t stop thinking about that moment, how I was feeling. That couldn’t be just a girl, she was an energy that could move mountains and shake waves in one’s life.
“Look, listen to me clearly, okay?” I took a step forward and cleared my throat as I spoke “I will not only marry you, but I will also make all your dreams come true, I will make the best out of our life. And by the way, for the moment, get ready we’re heading somewhere today”.
“Aww, you would really do that for me?”
“Absolutely!” I replied, “come on, we got to leave in 10 minutes!”
