* Suzuka and Himari, 15 years ago *
" Suzukaaaa! C'mon! It's just ice, there's nothing to be scared of!" Himari pleaded, tugging on Suzuka's arm, trying to get her onto the rink to skate with her.
Himari had just finished her best junior competition, finishing in first place for both her short and free skate. But according to 12 year old Himari, the only way she could celebrate is for Suzuka to skate with her.
"No way! I can barely stand in these skates, I'm not walking on ice in these!" Suzuka protested, shaking her head.
The other girl was finally forced to step onto the slippery rink, stumbling the moment her skates got in contact with the ice.
After enduring a grueling 15-minute lesson from Himari, finally not falling every step she takes, the two were enjoying themselves in the rink. With Himari showing off her tricks and Suzuka trying to copy her, but failing at almost every try.
Walking back to the benches at the sides, breathless from them recklessly playing on the ice, the pair plopped themselves down and started taking off their skates.
"When I get older, I'm gonna be the best fashion designer ever and I'll make all your costumes and make you look like the models on the runways" It was almost as if Suzuka sealed her fate with that sentence, her eyes glistening as she imagined herself making an elegant dress for Himari to wear to skate.
"Then I'll have my own ice show and you have to learn some jumps or something so you can skate with me!"
"Nooo... I don't wanna learn any jumps, they look so scary," Suzuka replied, picturing herself falling on the hard ice, wincing at the thought of it.
"Nuh uh, you're just a baby."
"Am not!"
"Are too!" Himari laughed, looking at Suzuka playfully pouting at her remark, but eventually breaking into laughter too.
"But you promise you'll be my best friend until then?" Suzuka asked, extending her pinky finger to Himari.
"Pinky promise." Himari interlocked her pinky with Suzuka's, sealing the promise.
