I check my purse to make sure I have it "yes"
"Good, I have the night shift, so I won't be here when You get back"
"okay"
I walk out to the white pickup truck parked in our driveway. "Woah, you look good" Louis's eyes rake over my outfit
"Thanks" I glance at his white tank top and ripped pants "so do you" I guess
He didn't look like he put much thought into what he was wearing, darn boys have it easy. Let me show up anywhere dressed like that, my mom would probably have a heart attack and consider I've gone rogue or depression hit me upside the head.
"Ready to go?"
"yeah"
On the drive to school, it's eerily quiet between us. Is it just me or is it just me? Usually, I'm a talkative person but what is there to talk about with him?
How should I start the conversation? Should I ask him what his favorite color is? Asking someone out of the blue is weird right? Once again silence meets my Jumbled mind.
"Ugh this is so awkward" I mumble underneath my breath
"Huh did you say something?"
I shake my head "no, nothing at all" I peek in his direction to see if he'll say anything else to me, but he doesn't, and we remain quiet for the rest of the ride.
There are a lot of people here, I get out and follow him, as he takes a seat at the bottom of the bleachers. Louis turns to me "are you hungry?"
I shake my head while looking at the field "no" The crowd cheers as the football players make an appearance.
We watch as the two teams warm up, the players throwing the ball back and forth to each other. The sun is setting, casting a warm orange glow across the field.
As the game begins, Louis and I cheer along with the rest of the crowd, yelling and clapping as our team makes a touchdown.
"Our team, the bears are going up against the tigers from green coast high, they said we've lost two times in a row, but this year is going to be different"
Louis fills me In on the back story of our wins and losses against the other schools "Louis, you know so much about football, why haven't you tried out for the team?" he shakes his head "Nah, I like to observe" Oh okay, the game starts and the opposing team has the ball first.
"Come on, let's go, baby!" The man with the bright green hair resembling our school colors behind me shouts to the players. "Let's go, you got this!"
Louis was quiet up until the game started, I feel this could be a good date if we keep the conversation flowing even though it started off awkward,
I glance around, taking in the sea of faces around us. Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves, laughing and shouting as they watch the game.
And then I see him. Danny is standing on the other side of the field, his eyes locked onto mine.
Wait, He's on the team? My heart sinks, and for a moment, I can't breathe. Why did we have to choose here for our date.
"Are you okay?" Louis asks, noticing the look on my face.
I force a smile, trying to shake off the feeling of dread that has settled in my stomach. "Yeah, I'm okay. Let's just enjoy the game," I say, squeezing his hand.
But I can't focus on the game anymore, my eyes keep drifting back to Danny.I can feel his gaze burning into me, and I know I need to do something before things get any more awkward.
"Hey Louis, can we go get some popcorn or something?" I ask, hoping he'll agree.
"Sure, let's go," he says, standing up and leading the way.
We make our way through the crowds, weaving in and out of people until we're out of sight of Danny but we don't get far when things start to get out of control
I move out of the way not wanting to be caught in the crossfire.
The guy rears his hand back in a fist then punches the man square in the face. "They're fighting!" Someone screams in the crowd; some people try to get away from the action while others join the fight.
"Louis, we got to go" I look around for him, but don't spot him anywhere, where did he go? I push through the crowd, but then get kicked in the leg and shoved into the fence. "Dang that hurt" I limp to the side of the crowd and then squeeze my way past.
I continue Limping to the parking lot where I see a ton of Police cars. Where is Louis? I hope he didn't leave me here. I pull out my phone to call him, but a hand grabs my arm instead.
"Come on" I'm tugged into the back of a building. It's dark, but a streetlight shows the man wearing a football uniform, so he must be one of the players. He turns around until I'm able to see his face "Danny?"
He peeks around the building then tugs me after him to a black jeep. "Get in" No, I can't leave with him; I must find Louis and how did he know I was here?
"I can't leave Louis" He stares at me while holding the car door open "did you ride with him?" I nod looking around, but all I see are police officers "He can drive himself back then, get in, we have to leave, now!"
reluctantly I slowly climb in the car. "Put on your seatbelt" Danny speeds out of the parking lot as more police cars continue to show up. He drives me to my house, putting the car in park.
"How do you know where I live?" He rakes his hand through his damp hair which I conclude was made by sweat.
"My mom told me" That sounds like something Sabrina would do, and my mom was probably behind it as well.
