Kisses Make You Feel Warmer (Penny Polendina)

Always wanted to write a Penny (aka best girl in rwby number 2 next to Ruby) oneshot but this one is quite short as I wrote this while fighting sleep deprivation. you're welcome

Upon walking around Atlas Academy after being on a day long patrol for Grimm in Mantle, your eyes catch sight of Penny Polendina. Her chipper attitude always brightens your day.

Penny: "Sal-u-tations! My name is Penny! Would you like to be my friend?"

She smiles up at you tilting her head slightly, her hands clasped behind her back. Coming up with a response, you open your mouth.

Y/N: "Uh... yeah!"

Penny beams brightly with a smile.

Penny: "Yay! I'm so happy you'll be my friend! What's your name?"

Y/N: "It's Y/N, Penny. Are you always this upbeat?"

Penny: "Y/Nis a very cool name! And yes! I'm always upbeat!"

She giggles happily. You look to your scroll.

Y/N: "Hm. There's no Grimm attacks for today, so that's a relief. I'm gonna-"

You feel Penny grab your arm gently. She tilts her head to the side and smiles sweetly.

Penny: "Why do you say that's a relief? Don't you like fighting Grimm?"

Y/N: "I say that because I'm glad they're not bothering us for today. Asides from that, I'm gonna head back to my quarters, Penny."

Penny looks sad at you leaving and tilts her head once more.

Penny: "Why do you want to go back to your quarters? Didn't you want to hang out with me?"

Y/N: "I've already completed my patrol for today, and I'm exhausted, Penny. I gotta rest."

Penny frowns slightly but tries to remain upbeat.

Penny: "Oh.. Okay! We can hang out when you're not tired anymore!"

Y/N: "Well... you could come with me. I know I'm supposed to not be social with others as I'm in the Atlesian Military but, let's do it."

Penny bounces with excitement and she nods her head vigorously.

Penny: "I could? Yay!"

The excitement on her face shows how very much she'd enjoy being with you.

Y/N: "Follow me, Penny."

You hold Penny's hand, leading her to your room with a smile. Penny takes your hand and skips happily along, looking about at where she's going.

Penny: "Thank you for being so nice to me! You're the best, Y/N!"

Y/N: "I.. thank you. I really needed to hear that."

Penny notices your slightly hurt tone.

Penny: "Oh? Why's that? Are you alright?"

Y/N: "Yeah. I am. But the life of being in the military isn't easy by far."

Penny puts two and two together.

Penny: "So that's why you were so tired! You've been protecting everyone! That sounds like lots of work..."

Y/N: "I've seen you out there too, Penny. You're as great a fighter like the rest of us."

Penny blushes and smiles. Upon seeing this, your heart skips upon seeing an already adorable girl become even more adorable.

Penny: "You think so, Y/N?"
