Author's note: This is not an action packed chapter. But a needed insight in the characters way of thinking to show their development. I hope you will enjoy it nonetheless.

Selena's POV:

"Morning, love... time to get up." Lucius' deep calm voice sounded in my ear, pulling me out of my peaceful sleep. I felt his lips on my neck, planting small kisses as he pulled me closer to him and let his hand gently grace over the curves of my body. "What time is it?" I asked, sleep lacing my voice. "6." He simply replied as I felt him leave the bed. "Why are you waking me up at such an ungodly hour?" I asked, annoyed and fighting to stay awake. "I have some work to do." , "What does that have to do with me?" I asked as I heard my own voice getting smaller. Suddenly I felt my body being lifted off the bed and before I knew it, my feet connected to the ice cold floor again. I shuddered from the cold and blinked my eyes open and saw that we were in the bathroom. Lucius was already decent. He must have woken up some time before me and had made himself ready for the day as he stood in front of me and held out my toothbrush for me to take. It was way too early. I sighed and started brushing. "Not a morning person I see." Lucius said with a small smile on his lips as he leaned back up against the glass wall of the shower, watching my every move. "No... not when I can sleep." I said, my voice still groggy. He hummed in response. "I've been wondering about that old t-shirt you and Draco fought over yesterday. It must be quite special... Would you care to enlighten me?" He asked. I let out a sigh and fixed my long hair up in a messy bun. "It just... helped me through a tough time. Made me feel less alone when I was away from Hogwarts." I said without looking at him. He walked out of the room without a word and in a second he came up behind me and handed me his black t-shirt and wrapped his arms around me. "You don't have to worry about being alone anymore. You'll never have to go back home if you don't want to." He said while looking at me through the mirror. I said nothing in response as his words had left me speechless. I just stared at him. He gave me a kiss on the cheek and said "Be ready in 5 and meet me in the dining room." I hummed in response and watched him leave my room. Was he giving me a choice? Was it a test? He was in an exceptionally good mood this morning. I shaked the weird feeling off, finished up in the bathroom and went to put on some clothes. Opting for a skirt and an oversized sweater.

I made my way to the dining room, half asleep. I was greeted by a very cheerful Narcissa. "Morning, sweetheart." , "Morning." I greeted her back and sat down at the opposite side of where she sat. Lucius sat at his usual spot, Narcissa on his right. An elf came and served me some breakfast and coffee. I let my eyes scan the room and was met with a smiling Vassal. "Oh right... forgot all about you." I said as I pinched the bridge of my nose. Trying to swallow down the memories of my actions from the day before. Draco came in and joined us and sat down at his usual spot beside me. "Morning." He said out in the room. When his eyes landed on Vassal he furrowed his brows. "Who are you?" The room got quiet. "I'm your mothers... um, friend." Vassal said nervously. "Miss Rain saved my life last night" He said as his excitement grew. "You should have seen her! It was amazing. I have never seen a person move like that! She took down a whole snatcher's dent by herself!" He exclaimed excitedly. "What the fuck are you talking about!" Draco bursted out and I felt his eyes snap towards me, burning into my skin. I had locked eyes with Vassal. Motherfucker. If looks could kill... He noticed my heated stare and looked down on his plate. "Selena, go wait for me in my study. I think my family and I need a little talk." Lucius said, annoyance prominent in his voice. Without a word I took my coffee and headed towards his study. When there, I slumped down on the couch with a sigh and tried to prepare myself for Draco's reaction.

Draco's POV:

"What is this?" I asked no one in particular. "Draco, there is no easy way to say this. I presume that you already know about the arrangement that your mother and I have. Our marriage and relationship is based solely on the protection of you and the Malfoy heritage. A partnership, if you will, with respect for one another and the task at hand. But nothing more. Which leads me to introduce our guest - This is Vassal, your mother's lover..." My father said in an annoyed tone while gesturing to fucking Vassal. I looked over at my mother who was staring down at her plate, refusing to look at me and slowly I began to feel a hatred building up. "Alright.. Fine? So how is this affecting us?" I asked annoyed and in disbelief over this ridiculous situation. "Well, given your mother's sense for the dramatics, she doesn't disappoint. The good gentleman here is nothing short of a mudblood." My father said calmly, almost sarcastic. "Don't call him that Lucius!" My mother piped up. "And what's more, the idiot chose to get himself caught. Which has endangered us all" He said, completely ignoring my mothers comment. "Your mother went ahead and asked Selena for a favour. Which ended up being a good thing. Vassal here was held captive by snatchers working for some of the death eaters in the Dark Lords inner circle. The snatchers had pictures of our family, and of your mother and Vassal alone together, that could prove your mother's "infidelity" with a mudblood and bring down the Malfoy name and put our loyalty to the Dark Lord in question." He said as he glared at my mother. "But what your mother didnt know is that our dear sweet Selena is like a rabid dog without a leash and her interrogation methods are extreme to say the least. She ended up killing six people. Snatchers, who were all tied together with certain Death Eaters, unbeknownst to me!" My father sat back in his chair, serious features set in place as he took a breath, eyes laced in anger and disappointment. "I have to find out exactly who they were working for. The situation has clearly gotten out of hand and the safest option for us all, is for your mother and her lover to go into hiding, for a while." I looked at him, shocked and in disbelief. I couldn't believe it. "She did what?... Sel? Look, I-I know she is a bit troubled, but... she is not a bloody psychopath?" My father looked at me with a soft expression for the first time in a long time. "There is a lot about her, Draco, that you don't know. She wasn't raised like you, like a pureblood. To her father, she was merely a means to an end and nothing else. She has been raised as a tool, and thus acts accordingly, when ordered to. Her skill set, her magical abilities and her unbreakable loyalty is the reason why the Dark Lord has shown interest in her. And why your mother went to her, instead of just accepting her lover's fate". I looked down at my hands. I felt sick to my stomach. My mother's actions spoke for themselves. But still she had not once met my eyes from across the table. Once again I pressed on, wanting her to look at me. "So? Where do you plan to go and for how long?" I choked out. My father looked at my mother and her lover. Waiting for them to speak but they both still had their eyes plastered down on their plates... This was getting ridiculous. I looked over at my father, who was now visibly pissed, nostrils almost flaring. "They are going to flee to France. Your mother has a sick aunt there and the story will be that she will stay there looking after her aunt until the war is over." I felt the heat behind my eyes. "Are you just gonna leave us? Leave me?" I asked her. She reluctantly met my eyes at fucking last. "I'm sorry, love. I just can't... He is the love of my life, Draco, I don't want to risk his life by staying here. Please, try to understand." , "Understand?!" I let out a chuckle. "I'm your son! I don't bloody care about your agreement. We are your family! Not him?!" I yelled and stood up from the chair. "Draco, please just calm down and listen to me!" My mother pleaded, but I was having none of it. Too far gone in my rage. "Well, what are we to you anyway? Hmm!? Just tools for you to play family with, like how you used Sel?! You know how important she is to me! How could you just use her like that?" My mother stood suddenly, hands clasped on the table. "No Draco! Selena is not your friend. Do you understand? She is dangerous! She clearly enjoyed the killings! Are you listening to me? She tortured them with a smile on her face, Draco! She is clearly insane!" I looked at her baffled. How fucking dare she! "No! You don't get to tell me anything anymore... you lost that privilege when you chose your fucking boyfriend over me. Over us.. Just fuck off to France already" I said, gesturing to the entrance hall while backing away from the table. Shaking my head I walked out of the room and headed straight to my fathers study.
