After dropping the girls off, I head home. The light in dad's study is on, so I step into the door. He sits in the big old worn-out gray wing back chair. A cigar between his fingers and a glass of gold liquor in the other.
"Did you enjoy the evening?" he asked without truning around
"Yes, thank you," I say
"Is something troubling you, son?" he asked
"If someone was in trouble, what could be done to help them?" I ask
He turns to me. "What kind of trouble are you talking about?" he asks
I shift on my feet. "If they were being hurt by someone,"
"Is someone hurting you, Zac?" he asks, and I watch his eyes start to glow
"No farther," I tell him
I see as the wolf within him calms. "Someone in our pack," he asks, taking a drag on the cigar. I nod. "Give me the name of the family."
I look down. I didn't know how Serenity would feel about me bringing this out in the open like this. But something had to be done to stop it from happening again.
"Zac," my father's voice is demanding as he says my name, "the family name," he tells me
"Carson"
"Are you sure?" he says
I nod. "She told me they hurt her,"
"Who?"
I looked down again. "Her brothers"
He stands his full height. "We'll pay them a visit then," he says
My eyes come back up. "Isn't it a bit late?"
"Never, come on," he tells me "Ruth" he calls out to my mother
"What is it?" mom says poking her head downstairs
"Zac and I are going out. We'll be back later,"
"Ok, be careful," she tells us
We head out the door, I don't know if I should be worried or thankful right now. As we pull up to Carson's house, I am a little concerned that Serenity will be mad that I had spoken with my father about this. Both of us get out, dad knocks, and we wait for the door to open.
"Alpha," Mrs. Carson says, bowing her head, "I wasn't expecting you."
He smiles. "We're sorry for sure a late night call, Cassie. How are things going since Ed passed? " he asked
She sallows. "It's been a little hard, but we are getting by."
He nods. "I understand. If you ever need anything, don't hesitate to ask. How about the children? Are they alright? "
She smiles slightly. "They are dealing in their own way,"
He nods again. "Are your boys home?"
"My boys," she asked
"Yes, i was maybe wanting to have a word with them," dad says
"Of course," she says, stepping back into the small house. I could hear her calling to both of them
Both of them were older than I was tall and slinky. They had the same black hair as Serenity. Twins, Justice, and Christian. I don't think Neither had their mates yet, and they both worked at the same place staying home to take care of their mother.
"Alpha," Justice says, bowing as they both come to the door
"Let's take a walk together, boys," dad says. "I'll bring them back, Cassie," he tells their mom she smiles
