Zac's POV
Addisons' birthday was a couple of days away. I was making plans and had the packhouse ready for the day. The girls both came back with positive test results from their appointments, and by now, everyone knew they were pregnant. The sickness seemed to have passed. I am grateful for that. Now, we were dialing with body issues and hormones. I think Serenity was more sensitive now than she was before. It was like walking on eggshells some days around her. Addison, she got them days as well, not as bad, though. I was supportive of both of them. Held Serenity when she would break down crying for no reason at all. And tell Addison she was beautiful on the days she really needed to hear to it.
Nether one of them really showed yet, but they would both say something about being fat. Or I would hear one tell the other how she couldn't get her shoes tied that day.
We sit in the lunch room at school now. Addison plays with the food on her plate while Serenity just got done eating her lunch.
"I could really go for some ice cream," Serenity says
"OH and some cheese puffs," Addison says
"Yes," Serenity says, "with chocolate syrup over it."
"We'll pick some up on our way home," I tell them Serenity pouts
"You two are so cute," Lacy says beside Keefer
"Thank you," Addison says with a smile
"I don't feel cute, I feel fat," Serenity says. "Look at this." She starts to lift her shirt up, and I stop her
"Don't do that." I scolded her
"I'm sorry," she says, and the water works come on, and I pull her into my arms
"It's alright,"
"Talk about hormones," Keefer says
"They been all over the place between these two," I tell him while still comforting Serenity
"Especially Serenity," Addison says
"I'm not that bad." Serenity says I can't help to snicker she pushes away from me to pout again
"I think it's neat you're having babies at the same time," Lacy says
"Twins from different mommas," I say, pulling Serenity back toward me
"What are you going do if they have multiples?" Keefer says
"That will be a handful full," Lacy says. "Do yall plan to stay in school for the whole process?" she asked
"If everything works out," Addison says
"Serenity will have to take some time off" I tell her "the doctor told her if she has multiples she'll need to be on bed rest for the end because she doesn't have her wolf"
"I heard it can be dangerous," Lacy says
"Doctor said it could be fatal to her and the pups, and we don't wanna risk it," I tell her
"Have you thought of names yet?" Keefer asked, and I'm thankful for the change of subject
"Not yet we're only sixteen weeks along," Addison says
"Never too soon to name them." Keefer says,"Lacy and I already named ours, and we aren't even pregnant yet. "
"We don't even know if they are going to be boys or girls yet," Serenity says
"Pick one of both," Lacy says. "If a boy we are naming him Frederick if it's a girl Sabrina"
"That's pretty," Addison says. "But do you have other names line up if you have multiples?" she asked
"We have a few," Keefer says
Cute, now I have to think about names for all of our children, not just the ones they are pregnant with now but future babies as well. Thanks, Keefer!
Monday of that next week I leave school early. Serenity had a doctor's appointment at noon, and I would be the one taking her. I get home to a dark house. Throwing my keys on the table in the hall, I make my way toward the den.
"Dad," I call before I enter
I could see his figure slump down in his favorite chair. A puff of white smoke clouded the room, and a red light shined losely between his fingers.
"Dad," I call again when he didn't answer me the first time
I step into the room, crossing over toward where he sits. And my face paled, quickly grabbed the phone that sat close to his chair. I deal with Doctor Monroes number.
"Doctor Monroes office," a young female voice says
"I need the doctor quick," I yell into the phone
"What seems to be the problem?"
"I think my father is... is dead, " I say
"I'll call the morgue. I need your address, please,"
"Just send them to the Alpha house," I tell her
I hang up, taking the cigarette out of my father's fingers. I put it out and then sit down on the floor in front of him. I sit there with him, just looking up at his lifeless face, willing him to come back and scold me for sitting there. But he didn't he was truly gone. Doctor Monroe came out, but there was nothing he could do. Dad had been dead for a while, maybe since this morning even. Mom was there when they took his body out. I pulled her close to me, knowing that it was it was about to get ugly in our pack.
The next couple of days, we made preparations for dad's funeral. The whole pack came together to celebrate my father's life. And on the day they lowered him into the ground, I stood beside my mother holding her up.
Days after, mom retreated to her room. When I would ask, she would tell me she was perpearing for the bigger celebration. I knew what she was talking about, but I wasn't sure I was ready.
Addisons' birthday had come and went, and it just didn't feel right at that time. Addison herself said it didn't feel right. The party we had planned went on, but our hearts weren't in it. Addison got caught cutting herself again. On the day of her birthday of all days. I could understand her pain, but to me, she was only thinking of herself.
It was hard on all of us, but we had to move on, and this I understood. Later that night, after everyone left, I laied with both of them in my arms. Addison cries, and Serenity runs her fingers through her silky black hair. It was a change because usually it was Serenity crying.
"It'll only get better," I whisper
"It hurts so bad though," Addison cries
"I know, baby," I tell her, my own hands caressing over each of their backs. "You've got to stop hurting yourself, Addy," I tell her
"I'm sorry," she says, sniffling
"You have more than yourself to think about," I tell her
"I hate my birthday," she says
"No, Addy," Serenity says, "This one will pass, and the next one will be better. You'll see"
"Sleep now, my angels," I tell them, giving them each a kiss.
I just pray to the gods that tomorrow will be brighter for all of us. I let my eyes close as I listened to the sound of both of them breathing.
