The sun pours through my window, hitting my face. I trun over, trying to avoid it. Then the knocking comes, I groan, truning over. It's way too early to get up, I pull the covers over my head to drown out the sun and hopefully the noise. But whoever it is won't stop knocking.

"What? What?" I ask, screaming at them

"You need to be getting up," mom says from behind the door

I take a breath. "I'm up, mom, sorry," I tell her

"Happy Birthday," she says

I throw the covers off me, sitting up. "It is my birthday," I say, "isn't it?"

"Breakfast will be ready shortly," she tells me, and I hear her walk away.

I run my fingers through my thick, dark hair. I didn't feel any different. Kicking the rest of the covers off, I got up. Making my way to the bathroom. I wash and dress for the day. Then, head down to join my parents for breakfast.

Dad sits at the head of the long oak table, a cup of coffee in his hands. His phone out scrolling through the news articles. Mom is at his lift, cutting into a stack of pancakes. I take a seat on his right as Holly, our house cook, brings out my plate. She sets it down with a bright smile.

"Happy Birthday," she whispers

"Thank you, Holly," I say

Dad finally looks up at me from his phone. "Have you picked out what you're wearing tonight?" he asked me

"Probably what I have on," I tell him

Mom smiles. "I'll have you something laied out when you get home, son," she says

"Thanks, mom," I say, taking a bite of pancakes

"So, eighteen years old," dad says

"Yeah," I say

"You know what that means," He says

"Don't pressure him, Louis," mom says

"Well, she's out there somewhere," he says

"I know dad," I say. "I'm going to finish getting ready for school."

"Happy Birthday, son," he says

I smile "thanks" I say, getting up

I could hear my mom and dad arguing as I made my way to my room. On the way to school, I prayed to the moon goddess that the halls were empty and I didn't have to face the mob today. I wasn't in the mood for girls throwing themselves at me today.

"Happy Birthday, Zac," Sarah says as I step out of my car

Great, it begins. I nod to her and head into the building. I'm going straight to my locker to get my books.

"Running a little late, aren't ya?" Keefer says

"A little," I say, grabbing my books

"Happy Birthday, man," he says

"Thanks" I say then I hear it the sound of a thousand woman talking at the same time "what the fuck" I look up "oh gess not today"

Keefer steps between me and them before they could run me over "Look ladies, why don't y'all give the man some room today" he tells them

"But it's his birthday" one of them says

"And what a great gift you will be given by given him space" Keefer says

There are some grumbles but they split up going their separate ways. "Thanks man, I owe you" I tell him

"Just have a good birthday" he tells me
