It was a calm day just as any other day on the Sacred world of the Kais when Shin had finished watching over the mortal realm for the day, He then thought about Daikaio, His old master and grand Supreme Kai and how he always stood on the edge of that hill looking into the distance looking over the universe with a smile on his face, Shin then had a sad look on his face and decided to read to clear his mind.
He walked into the huge library and noticed an old book on one of the shelves, he picked it up and blew off the dust revealing the words 'Once a Kai'. Shin remembered when Kita, the North Supreme Kai had showed him this particular book and told him to read it.
Kita had told him it was about an apprentice Kai who rebelled and turned on the other Kais, letting evil overtake him. The Kai's name was Zephyr, and he was an apprentice Kai of the west.
Kita told him to never lose sight of what was important, He then placed a hand on Shins' chest and said, 'Your heart', with a smile on his face Kita left Shin to read.
Shin stood there looking at the book remembering Kita and the other Supreme Kais.
He was about to put the book back on the shelf not wanting to think about the Supreme Kais and the grief he still felt for losing them, but a gold bookmark sticking up from the pages caught his eye. He pulled the book back and sat down turning the book to that page.
' "Zephyr! how could you betray us!" yelled the young woman weeping in the corner with deep wounds covering her body and blood staining her clothes.
"Oh, my dear Kai, you see, I didn't betray you." He said with a sadistic grin. "I'm merely taking what's mine. I will be the next Supreme Kai even if it means taking your life to do so!"
The young woman then screamed out in fear, anger, sadness, and grief, knowing that there was no saving the Kai standing in front of her, who was once her dearest friend, and her first love.
Zephyr then charged at the young woman with a ki blade in his hand, the blade punctured her stomach making her scream out in pain.
"Z-Zephyr! Stop this madness!-" The woman cried. "Do you really think I'll stop when I'm this close!" Zephyr retorted. He then let out a menacing laugh that chilled the young Kai to her core.
Shin slammed the book shut, tears falling from his eyes, for he knew that what had happened in the book was real...
