It was a couple of hours after I started writing and I had reached a good stopping point. Evelyn texted me to meet her at her house, so I drove over and we switched over to her car. We wandered around multiple stores searching for dresses. Most out of my comfort zone.

Sure I was the spitting image of a 'good girl in public, bad girl in bed' but honestly, I was the furthest thing from both. Somehow I had managed to stay away from anything involving guys, and that came with not showing so much skin.

Yet, here I am in the dressing room of a designer store trying on a sparkly, pastel blue tube dress. Sure you can say I looked good in it, but It wasn't my thing to stand out. My whole purpose in life was to stay as hidden as possible. Which is ironic considering I'm an author.

But hey I'm not using my real name or face therefore I am hidden.

"Let me see," Evelyn's voice says from the opposite side of the dressing room door. I turn and open the door, her eyes immediately brightening at the sight of the dress. "Katie you're gorgeous!" She walks in and adjusts my hair, pulling the ribbon out of my hair. "Hey-"

"This dress calls for... Risky. The ribbons gotta go for the night. Leave it down." Her hands fluff my hair to my sides and she smiles. "See," My eyes meet my reflection in the mirror and I grow a little insecure. This was so not me, not what I'd imagine myself wearing. "Maybe not this dress. This is going to get people staring at me."

To change my appearance I begin to unzip the dress, but Evelyn's hand wraps around my wrist. "Katie. You can't live like this your whole life." I look up at her through the mirror. "...You're not perfect. Everyone has flaws. You will in one way or another stand out." She whispers her knowledge of my fascination with perfection more than anyone.

That day after she left my house years ago, my parents got caught. Our facade came crumbling down and Evelyn's dad made a deal with them. Something dealing with money exchange, but luckily Evleny understood my reluctance to take part in it. She knew I'd never do that to her.

She's the only person in my life who knows about my actual life. The imperfect one. The flawed one.

"Fine," I give in, making Evelyn's face light up with joy. It made me happy to make her happy. Especially after she confessed her problems in life to me. The guy who had sexually assaulted her when she was eighteen, she killed. Little did Evelyn know he was Grayson's best friend so now she's here trying to balance a secret-filled relationship with the guy who broke her trust.

To sum it up, he's gaining her trust back, but slowly, eventually, she'll lose his. I'm scared for her, but I can't do anything so I let it be.

"Great, let's go, we have to go get ready then go meet Grayson."

At her apartment, we got ready and talked a little more about her situation with Grayson. Then we headed to meet him. Oh, and his brother, Adrien. He was our age, I had never met him even though we were all friends with Evelyn around the same time, I just never was with her when she was with them. Those were my instructions anyway.
