"Adrien." I stare at a wall, mind everywhere but the office until a little slap to reality brings me to Grayson sitting next to me, calling my name. "You okay?" He asks quietly enough between us as other people file into the meeting room. To be honest I don't have a stable answer so I just nod.
Today has been a rollercoaster of emotions. I was so fucking happy this morning at Katie's apartment, but imagine my surprise when I overhear her conversation with my friend. I only stepped in once I heard the fact that it took place last night. It came together like a puzzle, she had let me go over the phone because Jace texted her, asked her out, and she agreed.
That itelf was hurtful enough. I'm not saying she isn't allowed to make friends, if anything I want her to. Jace just isn't fit for that. The final blow to my head was hearing them talk about kissing.
"To get a taste of me would be a blessing. One from god."
Her words repeat in my head over and over. I overthink it more than needed. All it took was small talk and dinner before some dude's tongue was down her throat while I was over here killing myself to make her happy because it makes me happy.
Selfish. I'm so selfish.
"Disappointed. I am disappointed in everyone in here." My dad finally turns up in the room, walking in with harsh words. Typical him. He's a cold-hearted, hard-to-love, workaholic, and stubborn prick. Not even his children are allowed to stop working according to him. Just wait till he finds out that Grayson and Evelyn are together. Hell, wait till he finds out Grayson already is in the planning process to propose to her.
Rose and I have never been in a true relationship, especially when we were raised to dedicate our lives to work and nothing more. Grayson was able to salvage himself for Evelyn, but I and Rose are still in the process of realizing we can have a life besides work. It's just a little harder when there's not something or someone to encourage us to leave it like Grayson did with Evelyn.
Our youngest sibling Brody who's eight is who I have hope for. Let's just say he has a mind of his own and isn't afraid to chase after what he wants. Is it wrong for me to look up to an eight-year-old?
"How in God's name does fifty million dollars slip by your heads? Why in the world don't I have that bastard's name on my desk? Who the fuck stole this companies- my money?" My dad isn't even in his seat, he's standing on his end of the table with his hands in the air like he's fucking preaching.
Rose comes in a little after this and sits down to my right, Grayson on my left. "Uhm sir we have tried our best, but the account which the money was wired to was somehow untraceable-" A guy says from beside my dad, but gets cut off by the jump my dad gives him when his palm meets the table next to him with force. "'Tried' isn't enough! That money is mine, I don't care if it makes a dent in my pocket or not. What matters is it's mine and if you people can't find this supposed anonymous, the dent will be repaid from your very pockets!"
