Were you sent by someone who wanted me dead?

Did you sleep with a gun underneath our bed?

Were you writing a book? Were you a sleeper cell spy?

Grayson sighs as he enters the kitchen, finding me setting plates with the breakfast I'd cooked out of gratitude. "Where's Evelyn?" I question handing him his plate, which he takes with a smile. "She'll be down soon." His voice wanted to sound certain but it's hard to hide tone from me. I've studied it since I could talk.

"How are y'all? I've been meaning to visit more but I thought it best to let time pass to heal." I'd come over once after Evelyn had found out she'd miscarried her first child. The feeling of holding her as she fell apart reminded me all too well of the times I quieted her cries after Trevor had done what he did all those years ago.

Grayson and I walk over to the table, sitting down with our food and Evelyn just in case. "As best as we can. Sometimes I wonder if this is God's game; making us suffer." I know that feeling. "For what it's worth you're taking great care of her. You might've broken her heart once upon a time but a golden thread has always held you two together." Oh, to have what they have would be legendary.

"I broke her heart more than once and I thought that was the worst thing to see but," He shakes his head, looking away from my eye contact. "Watching her be in pain over something I could've prevented is a different type of torture." Instead of replying we sit in a quiet silence. I wanted to say 'It's not your fault,' but who knows what the alternate path it would've led to had Grayson not left Evelyn alone.

"Adrien really likes you." I almost drop my fork on the marble table at Grayson's sudden comment. "How-"

"I already knew about you two before you told Evelyn last night. Adrien can complain about me talking about Evelyn but his hypocrisy bleeds through with dark ink the minute your name is mentioned." The redness in my cheeks threatens to burn me permanently. "He's a great guy."

Just then the doorbell rings, not that it matters because the door immediately opens. Grayson furrows his brows, whilst looking over his shoulder. "I never thought you a thief brother but this is unacceptable." Adrien's voice booms through the halls with confidence.

He finds us in the dining room, shaking his head and crossing his arms. "You've stolen my muse." I roll my eyes before setting down my napkin. "Shouldn't you be at work?" I tease, only for him to waltz closer to me.
