FRIENDSHIPS BETWEEN WOMEN ARE OFTEN THE MOST DEEPEST AND MOST PROFOUND LOVE STORIES OF ALL. But they are often discussed as if they are subsidiary, bonus relationships to the truly important ones. The truth is that the friendships between women will outlast any job, parent, husband, boyfriend, and lover. It is possible to transcend the limits of your skin in friendship. This kind of friendship is not a frivolous connection, a supplementary relationship to the ones we were taught and told are primary—spouses, children, parents. It is love, support, salvation, transformation, life; this is what women give to one another when they are true friends.

Enola and Hayley were determined to cherish and support each other. They had been friends for a little over a year, but they needed that friendship. Without it, they would be unable to turn to anyone because they were platonic soulmates. No matter how busy they were, they would always find time for each other. Which is how they found themselves going for a relaxing stroll through the streets of New Orleans with Hope. It was a rather domestic scene. Two powerful hybrids pushing a stroller with an even more powerful tribrid inside.

"I still cannot believe Klaus let you come out," Hayley chuckled.

"Nik is not my keeper," Enola reminded.

"I know that," Hayley nodded. "But with everything going on with Dahlia, I figured he wouldn't be letting you out of his sight any time soon."

"And you would be correct," Enola hummed. "I didn't exactly tell him about our little morning stroll."

"I wouldn't be surprised if he was tailing us right now," Hayley joked.

"What? You think he is hiding in that bush over there?" Enola laughed in amusement.

"Anything to keep his darling wife safe," Hayley grinned.

Enola shot Hayley an eye roll before catching sight of a woman playing the violin up ahead. She pulled the stroller to a stop as she dug ten bucks out of her back pocket. She tossed the money into the violin case just when the woman changed the tune to something more eerie. She paused, recognizing the sound that sent shivers down her spin. Though she wasn't exactly sure where she had heard it.

"That song," Enola breathed. "What is it?"

"I—I don't know," Hayley frowned.

The violin player stared at Enola with a sinister look prompting Hayley to act. They quickly maneuvered away from the street performer and continued down the street. They almost immediately caught sight of a young boy standing outside of a café with a piece of chalk in hand. On the small blackboard, writing in sloppy handwriting read: A PROMISE MADE IS A DEBT TO BE PAID. They shared a look as they came to the same conclusion. It was time to go home. But before they could get anywhere, they were intercepted.
