The post office has never looked as scary as it does now.
It will take two, maybe three days for the papers to be delivered to Adam and she's not sure how to feel. It's a Saturday and since the post office is open, she decided to bite the bullet and take them a bit early.
She could have waited until Monday, but once Lindsey knew all she had to do was send them through the post, she was encouraging (Y/N) to just do it. That way, the papers will end up in his mail box on Monday morning and that's precisely when her life will change. For better, for worse, she's not sure yet.
Right when she walked in, it felt like everyone knew exactly why she was there. Like everyone was staring at her. She's a failure. She couldn't make her marriage work. A disappointment.
Her face was burning the entire walk over to the drop off. Somewhere deep down, she knew there was no way anyone else would know what she was dropping off, but her mind was sending her through hoops because she was so damn nervous.
It almost feels like she's doing something wrong. But she knows better than that. This is for good reason. She has to. She can't live like this. Adam is terrible and if no one believes her, she thinks she'll cry.
For some odd reason, the texts and calls have been slow from Adam's side today, but she figures he's just too busy to try to control her life right now. So, she put the papers in a nice sealed, yellow envelope and wrote his name and address on the front. It's as simple as slipping it into the mailbox at the post office, but she hesitated right before dropping it in.
She could save herself the trouble and the money and the time by just calling Harry up and telling him to forget it. She doubts even he'd let her do that. Lindsey would kill her. She's actually waiting outside right now in the car and if (Y/N) comes back with that same envelope, Lindsey might just drop it in the box for her.
So, she takes a dramatic deep breath before just dropping it right in. How easy was that? Something so simple that will have major consequences. That's what's she's going to call it. Consequences. Because it's going to be hell as soon as he gets those papers and she knows it.
That's why after work on Monday, her and Lindsey are going to stay in a hotel for the night. Just to see how he reacts at first and if they have to stay longer, so be it. She feels so terrible for having Lindsey involved, she wants to leave her out of it. But he would know that she knows where she is and that wouldn't end well for anyone. So, (Y/N)'s paying for their hotel.
"How did it go?" Lindsey was smiling once (Y/N) sat back in the car. She didn't want to admit to being so scared of dropping it in the mail box, so she just nods.
"It can only go up from here, right?" She rubbed at her temples before sighing. As if this day couldn't get any better, she has a rare weekend OBGYN appointment in just twenty minutes.
The office is only open for two hours today, but somehow they managed to squeeze her in for a check up. And she really needed it. She's been being careful and taking her vitamins, but she knows it's about more than that. So, she has to start being more mindful. And Lindsey, such a gem, decided to go with her.
Despite her family not really giving a fuck anymore, she's glad that she has someone to look out for her. In return, she'll do all she can for Lindsey as well. For the rest of her life if she has to.
