Atsushi Nakajima had a disorder. It was DID disorder. Dissociative identity disorder, previously called multiple personality disorder, is usually a reaction to trauma as a way to help a person avoid bad memories. DID is characterized by the presence of two or more distinct personality identities. Each may have a unique name, personal history, and characteristics. Atsushi has two different personalities.
Atsushi never told anyone about his disorder, so naturally, everyone either found Atsushi a bit weird or thought that he has extreme mood swings. Gradually, Atsushi is talking to someone with a nice personality and just talking casually but then suddenly he turns rude or unamused. Dazai was the only one that noticed that it might be something wrong, or simply a illness or disorder. Dazai tried testing out some things to check.
"Hey Atsushi-kun~!" says Dazai in a enthusiastic tone.
"..."
"Atsushi-kun!!~" Dazai repeats.
"What do you want Dazai?" Atsushi says unamused.
"Atsushi." Dazai says in a serious tone.
"H-huh what?" says Atsushi.
"Hmmm...Atsushi can you come with me?" ask Dazai in a neutral tone.
"U-um am I in trouble or something?" ask Atsushi.
"Oh no, your not! hehe come with me!~" he says enthusiastically.
"Ugh, I know what your trying to Dazai...Just don't go blurting it everywhere." says Atsushi knowingly.
"Oh so your smart and mean and the other is nice and flustered and neutral?! YAY!" says Dazai in a silly tone so he can keep the serious Atsushi for a bit.
"Ugh whatever! Just know idc how you deal with this." says Atsushi.
"Oh." replies Dazai.
"Hm? What's going on Dazai-san?" asks Atsushi.
"Come with me Atsushi." says Dazai, unbothered.
"Okay?" says Atsushi.
Dazai and Atsushi then go to Yosano's clinic. Then Yosano did a quick check up on him and she diagnosed him with Dissociative Identity Disorder. She then explained what it does and how to treat it. The way to treat it is therapy and sometimes yoga.
Atsushi didn't really care about his disorder so he didn't mind doing therapy and yoga. The ADA found out because of Yosano, with Atsushi's consent of course and they started treating him a bit nicer. Atsushi really didn't care about all of that he just wanted to live life normally and he didn't want anyone to judge him because of it.
