Commas

Commas are used to add extra information in a sentence without continuing the sentence directly. The most common mistake people make is failing to use commas when a sentence starts off with these AWUBIS words;

Although
After
As
When
While
Unless
Before
Because
If
Since

The comma doesn't have to come right after the word is used in the beginning of the sentence, but it has to be present before the sentence is closed off with a period. This is the only way a sentence can start off with these words. Otherwise the sentence is incorrect.

Example 1: what not to do:

Why do I have to go to school? Because my mother makes me. Since she went to college she expects me to.

Example 2:what to do:

Why do I have to go to school? Because, my mother makes me. Since she went to college, she expects me to.

Do you see the difference. Remember this.
