Ai Hoshino is a supporting character in "Hybrid Precure: The Last Hope". She is the lead idol of the B-Komachi and mother of Aqua and Ruby.

At the side, she is a local actress doing both live-action and voice work.

Appearance: Ai was a beautiful and quite thin girl with gradient-colored eyes from purple to pink and a six-pointed star in each of her eyes. She had blue-purplish hair with pink highlights.

She would usually wear clothes she is uncomfortable with before she was attacked.

After her 16-day coma, she would wear either a bracelet or a necklace that had the Stone Of Love in the middle, a ruby gem on its right and an aquamarine gem in its left.

Personality
Despite being naive, always full of smiles with a never-fading beauty since birth, Ai had a lived a broken life. Her mother abused Ai due to her jealousy of her at-the-time boyfriend having his eyes at Ai.

Time passed and her mother was arrested for theft, which led Ai to be sent to an orphanage, her life there wasn't much better as last time. To top it off, her mother never picked her up.

The environment she suffered in the past caused her to think of ways to protect herself. As a result, Ai lacked any memory of loving or ever being loved herself - prominently shown when Ichigo Saitou scouted for idols to start a group. She believed she lacked the qualification to become one due to these reasons, showcasing a lack of faith in herself. She became quickly convinced to join when Saitou told her that lying is fine and is, in fact, a desirable trait.

Thus, Ai's perspectives started to shift. She convinced herself that lies are a form of love - a love harbored out of the selfish desires of both sides of the spectrum. Ai sought to find an object for her "love". She wanted to learn how to love by telling her fans that her deceitful lies are, in fact, love. This desire also came when she bore children, but in a different context. She never once said that she loved them because being disingenuous towards them would be terrifying. However, her lies inevitably caught up with her when she was attacked by a disgruntled fan, using her near-death moments to tell her children that she loved them truly.

Nonetheless she was shown to enjoy her time with her children, and was particularly delighted when the twins did an eye-catching performance with idol lightsticks, which stunned the entire venue.

No matter what, lies allowed her to process the world around her. Within these contexts, she never sought to make things right to the point where she was fine to face the consequences of her actions. Lies were her way of expressing love, hoping that one day, they would become the truth.

Only when a terrible event happened did Ai finally realize - she loved her children, a genuine form of love, free from impurity and dishonesty. She was relieved and satisfied from finally being able to experience these true feelings. Even before this realization, Ai, had grown concerned over their wellbeing and stressing over the prospects of getting better paying jobs in order to provide for them.

When it comes to her private life outside the stage, Ai wasn't very social and most of her relationships were people related to the entertainment industry showing that Ai used to be a loner. Ai pointed it out herself that she didn't have any close friendships even among her fellow partners of B-Komachi. The seemingly bright and cheerful personality was nothing more than an act that hid her true personality.

Ai had a disorderly, impulsive, reckless, clumsy, asocial behavior with a low level of education; a direct result of growing in an abusive environment. It wouldn't be until meeting her boyfriend that she would have a drastic change in attitude, acting more cheerful, taking better care of her own appearance, acting more feminine and reduce her self-destructive inclinations.

After being mentored by Twilight Sparkle, she became more social, organised, and truthful to herself. She also gained a sense of caution and minded her steps carefully.

She is also shown to become knowledgeable thanks to gaining an interest in reading books.

She had also gained a sense of rationality and became slightly stubborn.

This also led Ai doing new things like setting things right when she is being accused. That was when she learnt the true kind of love and that lying will never be the greatest form of love.

Etymology
Ai's first name when written in katakana (アイ), means "eye", but when written in kanji (愛 or 藍), it means "love" and "indigo" respectively.

Ai's last name means "star"(星)  and "field, wild/wilderness" (野/野生). The pronunciation of it (ほしの) is similar to (欲しいの) which means "Desire of".

Trivia

—be canonically dead and have her death shown on screen, but be proven otherwise in a handful of fanfictions.
——while some were shown to be because of her encounters with a male either from another world or hers becoming her husband, this sets out as Ai being a single mother right from the beginning thanks to a certain item and an alicorn.
—be mentored by another popular character who is non-human.

-The first interaction of Ai Hoshino and Twilight Sparkle is inspired by the many comparisons and references between the two characters across the internet.

-Twilight Sparkle being a mentor to Ai is a callback to the former's well-made teaching skills after being a student herself to Princess Celestia.
—This also calls back to the time when she became a personal teacher to Starlight Glimmer where Twilight teaches lessons to Starlight in The Castle of Friendship until MyLittlePony: Friendship is Magic Season 7 Episode 1: "Celestia's Advice".
