Y/n, after finally joining the Spider Society, felt so happy. Excitement flooded through her veins everytume she stepped foot into the impressive headquarters, ready to embark on her official missions.
As she settled into her new role, Y/n couldn't help but notice that Miguel, since she met him, he was cold and rude. Not just to her, with everybody. His tall and lean frame was scary sometimes, his icy red eyes narrowed in a perpetual scowl. His voice was deep and mean.
From the moment she knew Miguel's behavior, Y/n started working alongside the Spider Society. Whether it was scolding an spiderpersom for a minor typo in their report or berating someone for not cleaning up themselves after a missiom, Miguel seemed relentless in his icy demeanor.
On this particular day, Y/n had just returned from a particularly grueling mission, her body weary and her mind still reeling from the dangers she had faced. She came back and took off her mask, foudinh Miguel waiting for her, arms crossed and a stern expression etched onto his face.
<<You came back after an hour.>> he snapped, his voice sharp and unforgiving. She nodded <<Yes, it was an hard mission.>>.
But it was like he did not care what she had to say <<You need to step up your game if you want to survive in this organization.>>.
Y/n's shoulders slumped as she fought back a wave of exhaustion. She decided to speak up, longing for a moment of understanding <<I just completed a challenging mission. I worked as hard as I could. Is there something you need from me right now?>> her voice tinged with frustration.
Miguel's expression did not softened at all. His demeanor to remained cold as always <<Work harder. Work better.>> he said tersely, striding away without offering any further explanation.
Left alone in the dimly lit office, Y/n let out a heavy sigh, her tired shoulders slumping further. She couldn't help but wonder why Miguel always seemed so distant and harsh towards her and the others. Had she done something wrong? Was he simply a naturally stern person?Y/n slumped down on a bench, feeling utterly exhausted. The day had been particularly strenuous, both physically and emotionally.
Suddenly, a familiar figure appeared beside her. It was Jess, the pregnant Spiderwoman, with her kind and gentle eyes. Y/n couldn't help but feel a surge of gratitude as Jess offered her a bottle of water. Taking it gratefully, Y/n muttered a heartfelt thank you before taking a long, refreshing drink.
<<How are you doing?>> Jess asked, her concern evident in her voice.
Y/n shook her head wearily <<Exhausted and tired.>> she admitted. <<Miguel scolded me today, and I hate being scolded. It makes me feel small and insignificant.>>
Jess let out a soft giggle, surprising Y/n. <<You should be thankful he only scolded you and didn't yell at you. You should hear how his loud yells are.>> she said to light up her mood.
Y/n couldn't help but smile at Jess's lightheartedness <<Ah you're right. I guess scolding is better than yelling.>> she admitted, the tension in her shoulders slowly dissipating.
Curiosity tugged at Y/n's thoughts, and they turned to Jess <<You know, I've always wondered how Miguel treats the people he cares about, since he is so hard with us Spiderpeople.>> she said, a hopeful note in their voice.
Jess leaned back on the bench, her expression turning serious <<Actually, Miguel is alone. He doesn't have a lover, but he does have a daughter named Gabriella. Well... he had.>> she explained, her voice tinged with sadness. Y/n stayed here, listening silently as Jess kept talking. She was careful to make sure that Miguel was not around <<He doesn't talk about it. He's extremely defensive and secretive about what happened to her. It's a tender spot for him.>>.
Y/n's eyes widened with surprise and comprehension <<So, he's hard on himself because of what happened to his daughter?>> she concluded, a newfound understanding washing over them.
Jess nodded, her gaze distant <<Yes, he blames himself for what happened. He's always been fiercely protective of her memory and doesn't want anyone else to know the pain he carries. That's how I see it.>> she revealed, her voice filled with empathy.
A pang of compassion surged through Y/n's heart as she listened to Jess's words. There were deeper wounds he carried, ones that Y/n could understand. She really could, when she lost Miles when he was little.
With a gentle smile, Y/n turned to Jess <<Thank you for sharing this with me, Jess. It helps to understand him better.>> they said sincerely, grateful for the insight she had provided.
Jess returned their smile, her selflessness evident <<Of course, Y/n. It's better to watch from another perspective, isn't it?>> she responded, placing a comforting hand on Y/n's shoulder.
Y/n nodded, feeling a renewed sense of patience and kindness. Maybe, just maybe, they could extend that understanding towards Miguel, knowing that beneath his tough exterior lay a man burdened by his past.
