TW: Self harm I'm sorry

"Jared, I need you to come over right now." Evan said into his phone.

"Okay...? Is it-"

"COME PLEASE."

"Okay, okay. I'm on my way."

(Time skip)

"Evan?" Jared opened the door to the Hansen Household and peeked inside.

"Come in!" Evan called. Jared could hear the tears in his voice.

"Are you... Oh my-"

"Please don't call 911, it's not as bad as it looks. Can you grab the first aid kit for me?"

Jared nodded quickly and fumbled for the handle of the drawer which he knew held the first-aid kit. "What happened?"

Jared knew what happened. There was only one logical explanation to the too-straight lines carved into Evan's shoulders, a sight that should not have been unsurprising. What Jared really wanted to know was, why?

"I'm so lost, Jared." Evan was crying at this point, sitting helpless on the floor. "I'm confused and I think I'm in love with someone that I don't deserve and I know it's not right and I'm not right and I've made so many mistakes and I just want to make myself pay but this time I took it a little too far and there's blood everywhere help me please Jared-"

"Whoa. Slow down, alright? Evan... Let me clean you up, and you can tell me more about this, okay?"

Evan sniffled and nodded slowly, continuing to cry.

Jared pulled an anti-septic wipe from the first aid kit and used it to wipe away the blood on Evan's arms. He then proceeded to wrap them in bandages. All while Evan talked.

"Tell me about this boy you're in love with." Jared said after a moment.

"H-How'd you know it's a boy?"

"Just a guess." Jared shrugged.

"Okay, um. I know him quite well. He's super... well. I don't know. He's kind of a jerk, but at the same time, he makes me feel good. Like, he's mean, but he's mean because he's trying to protect me. At least, that's what it feels like. And he's so... so beautiful. Like, he hides behind these obnoxious graphic t-shirts, but he's actually quite attractive. Fluffy hair and a sweet smile. I think I'd have to take his glasses off to kiss him, he has such pretty eyes. I'm not good enough for-" Evan stopped abruptly, seeming to realize who he was talking to. The very boy he had just described.

Jared looked at Evan with an unreadable expression. Slowly, while not breaking eye contact with Evan, Jared took his glasses off and set them aside on the floor.

And he kissed Evan as if it were all that was left for him.

Which, maybe it was.
