After finishing the preparations, the savory aroma of freshly cooked food filled the air, enticing the hungry boys. Daen and Dale came hurtling down the stairs, their excitement palpable.
"Mommy, mommy!" Daen called out, unable to contain his enthusiasm. Cheryl looked up from her work, her loving gaze fixed on her sons.
"Yes, baby, what's wrong?" she asked with concern. Daen, being the smaller one, couldn't see over the high kitchen counter. Toni, his mother, came to the rescue and lifted him up playfully.
"Better, kid?" Toni chuckled, as Daen's eyes widened in delight. "Much better!" Daen exclaimed, his happiness shining through.
Meanwhile, Dale approached his mom's (Cheryl) side, leaning over her shoulder to get a glimpse of the culinary creation. "French toast?" Dale questioned, his curiosity piqued.Cheryl nodded, a warm smile gracing her lips. "Correct, baby. Want some?"
Surprisingly, Dale declined. "No thank you, I'll just eat some cereal," he said, turning around to retrieve the box from the fridge. This response puzzled Cheryl. "But, Dale, don't you like French toast?" she questioned, a note of confusion in her voice.
Toni, sensing the tension, whispered under her breath, "Babe..." attempting to defuse the situation. Cheryl pressed further, wanting to understand her son's sudden preference. "Because, Mom, I don't want any. Cereal's fine for me," Dale replied, his frustration evident.
Cheryl gasped, bewildered by her son's response. She looked at Toni, silently pleading for an explanation. Sensing the need to intervene.Toni spoke softly, trying not to raise her voice. "Dale, apologize to your mother. That wasn't nice, kid. You could have worded that better."
Realizing his mistake, Dale responded with a touch of attitude, "I'm sorry, Mom. I didn't mean to sound harsh." Cheryl accepted his apology with grace.
"It's fine, sweetie. Just go eat your cereal," she said, wanting to diffuse the tension.
Dale made his way to the table and began to eat his cereal, while Cheryl served the rest of the kids delicious French toast, ensuring that everyone's appetite would be satisfied.
Before the kids were about to leave for school, Boni's eagerly awaited mother came and unexpectedly picked her up a little late. Toni dropped all the kids off and reluctantly headed to work. Cheryl, now alone once again, found herself in an eerily quiet house. Today was supposed to be their special day, but Toni received an urgent call from her boss, demanding her presence at work.
Cheryl, understanding the importance of Toni's job, reassured her wife that it was alright to leave. Deep inside, however, she longed for their family time together. Two hours had passed since the kids and Toni left, and Cheryl couldn't shake the feeling of emptiness that permeated the empty rooms. Determined to distract herself from the void, Cheryl pulled out a list of tasks that would keep her busy when nobody was at home. It happened that Cheryl completed the all the task over the weekend.Cheryl patiently waited for everyone to come home, her eyes growing heavy as she dozed off on the cozy couch. Suddenly, she heard the familiar creak of the front door, and her heart warmed with joy. She looked up to see her two precious kids, Daen, Dale, and Grace bustling through the entryway.
"Hi mommy!" Daen exclaimed, his little feet sprinting towards Cheryl. She scooped him up into her arms, showering him with kisses.
"Hi handsome!" Cheryl said, a warm smile shining on her face. "Did you put your bookbag on the rack?"
Daen nodded no eagerly, but before he could speak, Dale piped up
"I did it for him, Mom," Dale chimed in. Cheryl's heart melted at her son's thoughtfulness.
