[December 13, 1968 - 7:30 am]

"Uh, this town has gone downhill since I was crowned miss-" Penelope began, but was quickly interrupted by Cheryl.

"Oh, Mumsy not more ancient history again" Cheryl interjected, rolling her eyes.

Nevertheless, Penelope gazed at Cheryl and continued, "Oh, my God how times have changed, but time seemed to halt when I was miss Riverdale blossom" she reminisced.

Cheryl retorted, "Mumsy, wake up from that dream of yours, this isn't 1930,"

Penelope, undeterred, turned back to Grace saying, "Oh, Cheryl, I'm trying to tell my granddaughter a story"

Penelope enthusiastically explained, "Let me show you how your grandmother dear outshone the competition,"  As she spoke, Penelope gently took Grace's hands and led her to the dance floor with a smile on her face.

Penelope spoke in a lighthearted manner as she chuckled, "Those broads thought they'd win, if a plate, they would spin in their dance, Not a chance"

"Those poor runner ups might still hold some grudges, they padded their cups," Penelope whispered conspiratorially, "but I screwed the judges"

And then, addressing the arriving Toni and Polly, Penelope cheerfully exclaimed, "Oh Good morning ladies!" as the two women smiled back at her.

Penelope excitedly shared with Grace, "Oh, you should have seen my bag of tricks, oh, I hit the stage batons ablaze, while belting Aida and preparing soufflés. That triple somersault as I clenched miss Riverdale blossom."

Grace replied, beaming with happiness as she danced with her grandmother, "That's super"

Penelope chuckled and added, "I never drank one chocolate malt, no desserts for miss Riverdale blossom"

Penelope, with a smile on her face, encouraged Grace to begin dancing with the words "Ready begin," as she watched her move gracefully as if she had stepped out of the 1930s.

"On my show you'll never find, a thrusting hip or bumping grind," Penelope reassured Grace warmly.

Cheryl chimed in, feeling a bit uncomfortable with the direction of the conversation, "Okay, Mom, let's dial it back a bit, please." Cheryl said thinking Penelope was getting to inappropriate.

With a secretive tone, Penelope leaned in closer to Grace and whispered, "For the crowns in the vault, from when I won miss Riverdale blossom" ensuring that Cheryl was out of earshot.

[11:04 am]

Penelope chuckled happily, "Mmm!" Grace reached for another piece of the cake, causing Penelope's laughter to bubble up even more.

"Scorsese was absolutely head over heels for me back in the day! if my father hadn't laid down the law against showbiz, that would've been me in Bonnie and Clyde or the sound of music, not Julie Andrews, or Faye Dunaway." Penelope reminisced before noticing a hint of worry on Daen's face.

"What's troubling you, baby heart?" Penelope asked, genuine concern.

Daen hesitated for a moment, then took a bite of the cake to gather his thoughts. "Oh, nothing, I'm okay," he replied, trying to brush off his troubles.

"You don't fool me for a second, Remember, Grammy's room is a judgement-free zone. So out with it," Penelope prompted, resting her chin on her hand and looking at Daen intently.

Daen sighed, the weight of his words heavy on his tongue. "It's Mom... She's really upset with me," he confessed, placing the fork down on the plate.

Penelope inquired in a playful tone, "Genetics in actions, what flavour of strange?"

Daen observed, "I think mommy and momma are mad at each other,."

Penelope, remarked, "You kids, see everything, don't you?" Penelope sighed.

With a firm grip on Daen's shoulder, Penelope stated, "I know your mother, better than she would like to admit"

She continued, "She loves you like a sickness, both you guys, whatever is going on, someday, somehow, you are going to find out it was all for you" a sly grin appearing on her face.

Daen expressed his frustration, "Well, right now, its like some stupid game, and I don't want to keep playing it,"

Penelope, mentioned to Daen, "Well, maybe your mother needs to." As she sat back, she took her hand off Daen's shoulder.

Continuing in a light-hearted manner, Penelope chuckled, "And if people need to dream..."

"...Why wake them up? hmm. hmm."  She asked with a smile.

Meanwhile, Cheryl, also smiling, called out, "Come on Daen, Grace. We're leaving," as she came down the stairs, walked into the kitchen, and wiped their faces which was coved in cake.

Penelope got up from her seat and moved towards Cheryl, enveloping her in a warm and tight hug. Cheryl's expression shifted to one of surprise as she processed the unexpected gesture. After a moment, Penelope released Cheryl from the embrace, holding her at arm's length.

With a gentle touch, Penelope placed her hands on Cheryl's cheeks, looking directly into her eyes. "All these years, I have underestimated you," Penelope admitted. She then removed her hands from Cheryl's face, letting her know she spoke from the heart.

Cheryl's face lit up with a smile as she responded, "Thank you for watching the twins," expressing her gratitude.

[Home]

Dale, with a warm smile, walked up to Daen at his desk and kindly asked, "Daen, momma asked if you want to come with us."

"Yea, ill go, where we going?" Daen replied.

"I don't know, just come on," Dale said as he walked out of the room.

Leaving his half-finished drawing on the table, Daen followed Dale downstairs, heading toward Cheryl.

"Grab your jacket, Daen," Cheryl instructed as she walked past him into the kitchen.

Daen quickly picked up his jacket from the couch.

"Toni, are the twins ready?" Cheryl called out from the kitchen.

"Yes, babe, coming down now," Toni replied.

[Surprise Place]

"Momma, where are we? We've been walking for hours!" Dale said, holding the twins' hands.

"Dale, we've only been walking for ten minutes. Don't have a cow," Toni replied, pushing the baby twins ahead.

"How about we go get some hot chocolate at Pop's? Why momma saves us a spot," Cheryl suggested, rubbing her hands together excitedly.

All the kids agreed, and we set off towards Pop's. Upon entering, we were greeted by a flurry of activities taking place.

"Hey Pop's, what's happening here tonight?" Cheryl inquired, walking closer to him.

"We're having a party where kids can decorate cookies, create drawings, color Christmas-themed stuff, and more," Pops explained enthusiastically.

Cheryl glanced at the twins, who were grinning from ear to ear. "Oh, all right, off you go," Cheryl replied, playfully rolling her eyes while flashing a slight smile.
