"Ian?!", Shayne spotted his friend. Shayne was walking through the city center with Damien and Courtney. Ian was alone and he didn't really plan on meeting anyone. Mainly, because he was walking out of a jewelry right now. "Ohhh!", Courtney couldn't hold back. Damien didn't get it at first, but Ian's red cheeks and the fact that a loving couple just made its way into the building Ian came out of, made him understand. He must've bought a ring. "You did buy what we think you bought, didn't you?", Shayne finally asked. Ian just took out the small casket to show them the ring."Whoa. Not what I expected, but... it fits! It's so Anthony!", Courtney said honestly. It wasn't a traditional ring, but it did really match Anthony's style. "I love it!", Damien said. His style was always closest to Anthony's so Ian was immediately relieved. "I'm so happy for you! If we can help you with anything...", Shayne suggested. "Actually... I need someone to distract Anthony this Saturday. He took this weekend off for us, but I need some time to... prepare", Ian admitted. "Of course! The whole day or just a few hours? We can do that", Courtney agreed. "Maybe from like three pm till six or something?", Ian asked. "Okay. We'll think of something, don't worry! Anything else?", Shayne wanted to know. "I could need some help maybe... and honestly someone to calm me down. I'm freaking out already", he admitted and made his friends laugh. "I'll be there", Shayne said patting his shoulder. He was closest with Ian of the three, so he was the best emotional support he could get.
Ian somehow made it till Saturday without Anthony noticing too much of his nervousness. At least that's what Ian thought. Damien and Courtney had planned out the perfect plan to distract Anthony for long enough and Shayne was already on his way to Ian's place when Anthony left. Ian was freaking out the second his boyfriend was out the door. Not only because of his proposal plans but also because Anthony just got pretty mad after Courtney had called him with some lie to make him come over immediately. He seemed really pissed that he couldn't stay with Ian like they planned for today. Ian was relieved that he didn't smell the lie, but a mad Anthony was not what he needed tonight.
"He will be okay. Now, let's go. What do we need to prepare?", Shayne asked when Ian let him in. "Yeah... so... I... O god", Ian stuttered walking up and down. "Jesus, Ian. Come on, look at me!", Shayne demanded and looked him in the eyes. "Now breathe. In... and out. We have enough time. It's gonna be okay. Now tell me what your plan is and we prepare everything", Shayne tried to calm his friend down. It worked enough so that they could actually start to prepare everything. Step by step and always with some short breaks in between to calm Ian's nerves a bit.
At the same time, Courtney and Damien had a surprisingly hard time making Anthony stay with them and find excuses. He seemed nervous and annoyed, but they managed to hold him back for long enough. Just a few minutes early, he left. "He's on his way now! We couldn't distract him any longer", Damien texted Shayne. He then told Ian and took the last minutes to - again - calm his friend down as much as he could before he had to leave. Shayne took a detour to avoid meeting Anthony on the road and that was just the last puzzle piece that had to be thought of.
Anthony came home and was immediately greeted by Ian at the front door. A bit confused, he took off his shoes and jacket. "So... I made dinner for us", Ian explained almost a bit shy. His boyfriend smiled at him before thanking him with a small kiss. "I can't wait. This was so unnecessary today, really. I shouldn't have left. We planned this weekend for just us", he said. "It's okay. Let's just enjoy the time left", Ian shrugged and took Anthony's hand to show him the table he prepared outside behind the house. It was a warm summer night and some candles were just enough light to add to the light coming from inside. One single red rose was placed in the middle of the table. "Romanic today, huh?", Anthony smiled and couldn't help but kiss his boyfriend again. Normally, they both weren't that big with great romantic gestures, but it felt different today.
Ian made Anthony sit down. He didn't want him to help, so he waited until Ian came back with two plates of pretty good-looking dinner. "Whoa, since when do you cook?", Anthony commented surprised. He didn't mean it in a bad way and Ian understood. "Today, I guess. I hope you like it. There's a dessert as well", he explained, and was still grateful for Shayne's help. "Is there a reason for all that? Did I forget some anniversary or something?", Anthony suspected. "Uhm... no, I just... we planned a weekend for just us, and I thought... especially now that I had the time...", Ian stuttered a bit nervous not recognizing that the other one was just as nervous. So, they enjoyed their dinner even though both of them were so anxious, they could hardly get down anything.
After the dessert, Ian brought the plates inside trying to calm himself down again. Now was the moment. He planned all that for the next few minutes. His hand checked the box in his pocket and his mind was replaying the speech he prepared. When he went back outside, Anthony stood at the railing of the big balcony looking up into the sky. Ian smiled at the sight of his love in front of that starlit night. Slowly, he walked up to him. Anthony immediately pulled him into a side hug still looking at the stars. "It's beautiful tonight", he said. Ian nodded, navigating himself out of his arm to finally get down on one knee and pull out the ring.
It took Anthony a moment to notice and another to realize what was going on. Ian's brain took the time to make him black out completely. Not a single word made it out of his mouth and he almost started crying out of panic and salt-hatred in that moment. But Anthony immediately saw it in his eyes. He just let himself fall on the knees too and hug him. "I think I know what you wanna say", he whispered with tears welling up. "And you know... it's kinda funny, cause...", he continued and then started pulling something out of his pocket. Ian had just enough time to comprehend his words and felt like he got hit in the face when "funny" seemed to be the first impression he made. But right then, Anthony showed him the simple, golden ring he brought. For him.
Their eyes met and they couldn't help but smile widely at each other. Ian pulled his boyfriend in for a hug. They let themselves fall on the floor fully and lean against the railing. "So... the question is kinda unnecessary I guess, but... do you want to marry me?", Ian finally found his words again, even though they came out pretty silently. "I do", Anthony laughed a bit. "And do you want to marry me?", he asked back. "I do", Ian gave the same answer, also laughing slightly. "I fucking love you", he added before hugging Anthony again. "I fucking love you too", he laughed and then kissed him. Their eyes met again and they remembered the rings. Anthony was the first to take Ian's hand and carefully put on the ring. "I hope you like it. It's simple but...", Anthony started but got interrupted by a kiss. "I love it", Ian just said before now taking Anthony's hand and putting on his ring. He was relieved that it fit and even more relieved when he saw Anthony's eyes light up after looking at the ring closer. "Almost married", he joked and they both laughed again, hugging each other and just cuddling until they fully realized what just happened. How random and at the same time so perfectly timed was it, that they both wanted to propose on the same day? They couldn't wait to tell this story but at first, this weekend was just for them.

Proposal stories aren't my best ones, I think, but I honestly kinda like this one. I hope you like it too!
