The funeral roast stream itself was a great success. There were a few small slip-ups here and there but nothing that didn't just make it funnier. Everyone had a good time despite the stress that these kinds of events inevitably come with. The most relieved was probably Courtney as the director. But Anthony seemed to be at least as relieved as them when they finally finished the after-party stream as well. Ian was happy to see him like that because after their talk earlier he would lie if he said he wasn't a bit concerned about his friend.A few minutes later, they all got changed and decided to hang out for the rest of the evening. Ian wanted to talk to Anthony again, but he couldn't find him around the others. "I'll look for Anthony again. In case someone is looking for us", he informed Courtney and left the group towards where his friend was before the stream. Luckily, he was there again. This time he was lying down on the small couch staring at the ceiling. "Hey", Ian carefully made him aware of his presence. Anthony immediately looked at him. "You okay?", Ian wanted to know. "Yeah. I just needed a moment to process", his friend explained with a soft smile that looked a little strained. "Okay. Should I leave you alone then?", Ian suggested. It looked like Anthony thought about it for a moment, but he shook his head sitting up and gesturing for Ian to sit with him.
They sat in silence for a while. "How do you feel?", Ian found the courage to ask. "Overwhelmed. But... happy I think", his friend explained. "You think", he questioned. "I'm more overwhelmed than anything else. But I didn't disassociate", Anthony told him. Ian couldn't help but smile a bit at that. "Sounds good, I guess", he said. "You almost made me cry. You know that?", his friend laughed at him. "Sorry", Ian apologized quickly. "No, it's fine! I don't think it would be the first time on camera. Besides... I love you too", Anthony answered honestly while making eye contact which Ian broke almost immediately even though it was obviously just platonic. He almost forgot that he said that earlier. The only thing that made it possible for him to say that was that it was in front of cameras and he wouldn't have to go on about that emotional stuff. Now they were sitting here again and he felt all anxious about it.
"I was surprised when you said that earlier", Anthony mentioned making his friend more insecure for some reason. But he recognized that and pulled him in for a side hug. "I'm proud of you actually", he added. "God, please stop", Ian finally couldn't hold back laughing to cope with it. Hearing this did make him feel good, but it was just a bit much for him right now. "Okay, okay. But thank you, honestly. For the whole thing", Anthony wanted to get out. Ian broke the hug then to try to get out of the situation once more. His friend finally let go of it smiling to himself. He really was proud of him. But he also knew when he had to stop pushing him into these situations and now it was time.
"Would you bring me home? I feel a bit drained actually...", Anthony picked another topic. "Not hanging out with the others?", Ian wanted to make sure. "I don't think I can take socializing right now", he admitted. Ian just nodded at that. "Let's get you to bed then", he joked already standing up. Anthony laughed slightly following him. "They will understand, won't they?", he couldn't stop himself from overthinking his choice to leave. "They will. Don't worry", Ian just reassured him while they left the building. If he knew something, then it was that the people working here were the most understanding friends he ever had. So he didn't worry at all about leaving early and bringing his friend home.
"Do you need anything else?", Ian wanted to make sure when they arrived at Anthony's place. "No, I think, I'm okay. Thanks for the ride though", he answered. "No problem", Ian smiled waiting for him to get out of the car. "Call me, if you... if you need to", he forced himself to say. Not because he wouldn't want him to call. More because it still wasn't easy for him to say these more emotional things. "I will. Thank you. See you tomorrow?", Anthony smiled thankfully from standing outside the car now. "See you tomorrow", Ian agreed. So his friend closed the door and made his way inside. Ian headed off for his place smiling softly while letting the evening replay in his mind. He actually was proud of himself too for the talks he had with Anthony today. And hearing him say that he recognized his progress and was proud of him too felt strangely good. It really seemed like they were on the right track again. With their work but more importantly with their friendship.
