"I don't want to lose him." Ian stared at his outwritten thoughts for almost an hour before he finally took out his phone and opened the chat with Anthony again. The last time they texted, Ian told him he had a panic attack, and Anthony answered that he would be there as soon as possible. And then he was there, he held him, he woke up in his arms, and they kissed. "I don't want to lose you", he now wrote and hovered over the send button. It was just the truth. There was nothing wrong with being honest. He told himself that before sending the message. Immediately, Ian put his phone down anxiously leaving it in the kitchen while sitting down in the living room. He wasn't sure why but he was scared of what the answer would be.

Anthony came back from his yoga session recognizing his phone screen lighting up. He picked it up and read the message. "I don't want to lose you" hit him harder than he expected. He even had to double-check if it really came from Ian. But it did. And it meant a lot to him. Anthony could only imagine how much courage it needed for Ian to write and send that. Courage or alcohol. But for some reason, he knew it was a sober decision. He imagined his friend anxiously sitting somewhere waiting for an answer but what would someone answer to that? He didn't want to seem worried about it too even though he was. But it would just make it worse if he said that he was scared too. So he texted back: "I won't leave".

It was the truth. He didn't want to leave his friend's side ever again. Not because they just started running a business together again but because he knew how hard it was for Ian when he left and how hard it was for himself. They were different people now but that didn't mean it would be easier. In fact, it would probably be harder. So many jokes were made and every time someone commented on Ian being so much happier now, Anthony could only imagine how much he hurt him back then even though Ian understood why he left. What if he couldn't take it again? No, he definitely wouldn't leave a second time. They would talk it through and make it work. There was no other option.

Ian read this text hours later when he forced himself to go to the kitchen and look at his phone again. And reading it felt like a huge weight had lifted from his shoulders. Of course, it wasn't a promise but it felt like something Anthony was so certain about that it calmed his nerves. He didn't know what to answer and his friend would probably be in bed already anyway so he left him on read and went to bed too. The second blanket and pillow were still there. He couldn't help it and smiled about it. This morning, he was here. It wasn't long ago and when he lay down, Ian could still smell the scent of him. It reminded him of the warm safe feeling he felt when he held him and he fell asleep fast.

The next day was a Saturday so they didn't have to work. Ian woke up early anyway and found himself hugging the pillow his friend slept on the night before. He wanted that. He wanted the feeling of waking up with him. He didn't know why and how he never even thought about any men that way before but did that matter? Anthony was right, they weren't teenagers anymore but that meant that they could do whatever they wanted. Ian got out of his bed, jumped into some clothes, and made his way to the car. He picked up some breakfast and soon parked his car in front of Anthony's house.

Anthony woke up through his doorbell. He sat up confused and took his phone to check the camera. When he saw Ian, he immediately opened the door grinning like an idiot. He quickly made his way to the front door where Ian now stood inside taking his shoes off. "Good morning. I... Maybe I should've asked you before but... I got breakfast", Ian explained proudly holding up the bag. "Sounds great", Anthony welcomed him.

They sat down where they were fighting yesterday now smiling slightly but still feeling insecure. "I'm happy you're here", Anthony finally said. "I just... I woke up and... remembered yesterday morning", Ian explained. "And? You... want that again?", Anthony asked nervously. He wasn't sure if he was ready for the answer. But Ian nodded blushing and waiting for his friend to say something now. "I think we can do that", Anthony said also blushing. "I mean, not right now, cause we're eating but...", he rambled on but got interrupted: "I get it." Ian still smiled widely. "Later", he winked making Anthony laugh a bit. "Later", he answered anyway before they continued their breakfast.

Later, they ended up on Anthony's couch cuddled up as if it had always been that way. "Let's see where this is going. I... I think we can handle it, even if it doesn't... work out", Anthony suggested carefully. "Okay", Ian agreed obviously hesitating to say more. His friend just waited patiently. "I just really don't want to lose you again", he forced himself to say it out loud for once. Anthony looked at him surprised but so happy and proud. "As I said: I won't leave", he answered pulling Ian closer intuitively.

The End

I hope you liked the longer format of this one. I never really plan how long a story is going to be, so it just happened.
